Why would CR and Poly be already full for Jan 2009?

So, today I made a "room only" reservation for Jan. 13-18 2009 through Disney via phone. My first choice was a MK view at the CR. This was all booked, as well as all the bay lake rooms. The only rooms available were concierge and suites. It was the same story at the Poly. Instead, I was able to get a savanna view room at the AKL with bunks. I know the kids will love this, so I'm not too disappointed. However, I am really shocked that the CR and Poly were so booked already. I asked the CM if the rooms may be available closer to Jan., but she said the rooms were actually booked. Anyone know the reason for this? MLK weekend is the 17th-19th. I'm sure attendance is higher this weekend, but I wasn't expecting it to be like Christmas, Easter, spring break or the summer. Any insight?

Did you look to see if this is when the marathon is?

We were there in January and arrived during the marathon. OKW was totally booked and I was unable to get my request (first floor room cause I have spinal problems and don't do stairs well). They told me that if I came back in two days they could change my room AND upgrade us to a 1 bedroom instead of the studio I booked. I can't stand moving so I didn't take them up on that.

Marathon time is very VERY busy.

The marathon is Jan 8-11. Maybe the runners are extending their vacations into the next week. We will be arriving the Tuesday following the marathon. That's a good thought.

disney first puts up their most expensive - later the rest of the stuff will show up.

although I agree it should be up - it is less than a year.
