Why won't mousekeeping take my tip?

I am currently at All-Star Sports and yesterday and today I left a mousekeeping envelope with tip propped up on top of the entertainment center but the mousekeeper will not take it. It says Thanks Mousekeeping on it. Any ideas why they won't take it?

Is there a foldover card in your sink area with the Mousekeeper's name? (Not sure what the bathroom configuration is at All-Star Sports but at both WL and YC where we recently stayed there was such a card on the shelf above the sink). We left our tips there and they were taken.

Ditto I did it that way at WL and it was taken, Christmas I give a little bit more money :santa:

Most mousekeepers won't take money unless it is very obvious that it is meant for them. People leave money in their rooms, for instance we often leave change on the table. Perhaps the envelope on the entertainment center looks like a simple thank you note, and not something meant for them to take. Or, they may not be able to read English.

We have had trouble with getting the mousekeepers to take our tips a few times. I finally figured out if I leave the money somewhere on the bed - pillow, end of bed, etc. - they realize it is meant for them to take.

Good luck, and enjoy your trip!:sunny:

Possibly your mousekeeper doesn't read english and if so I wonder if the word mousekeeper could be puzzling even if they've learned the basic english words in their environment.

We had a hard time with this too!

My husband kept saying, why won't she take her money!

He hand delivered a tip on our second to last day... She was very thankful:)

Officially, they don't take it because they are employed in a Non-Tipped Position as defined in company policy and under their collective bargaining agreement and risk immediate termination from Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S, Inc. if they are discovered to have accepted tips.

Unofficially, many Housekeeping Cast Members don't speak English or have a very limited command of it. To someone in that situation, "Mousekeeping" might as well refer to some sort of Animal Control Agent. Also, if it isn't somewhere where it's plainly visible, they might just miss it as they rush to clean the rooms.

There are a few Cast Members who do follow the rules and just don't take tips. In those cases, nothing you can do will get them to accept it.

Is this true? I would hate to think I was risking someone's job when I tip them.:confused3 Surely Disney wouldn't fire someone for taking a tip when so many people tip Mousekeeping.

I left an envelope with the money inside on the pillow every day and it was always taken. I did notice the card on the shelf above the sink also.

It is the Company's policy on tipping. Realistically, the Housekeeping Management teams turn a blind-eye toward the subject.

They are paid as Non-Tipped Cast Members, however. So they make off quite well when you add in the tips.

I always leave my envelope on the sink and they always take it. This past trip, twice it wasn't taken but I just left it with the next day's envelope and both were gone when we got back.

The entertainment center is not a very good place to leave the tip as there's a very good chance mousekeeping won't give that area a second glance. It needs to be left in a place where they are definitely going to be cleaning.

Our tips were always taken too. We left them on the bathroom sink in an envelope and they were taken every time.

So,would your advice be to tip or not to tip? Thanks.:)

You're free to do as you like with regards to the matter. If you would like to leave a tip, you may certainly do so. It may not necessarily be taken, but the sentiment is certainly there.

Likewise, if you don't want to tip, that's also your perogative. You can still and should continue to expect the same legendary guest service that is standard at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

We always leave our tip envelope on the pillow and the envelope is always taken.

While the term mousekeeping is widely used here, it is a not term recognized by Disney.

I leave the tip on the nightstand or pillow, with a note that says Housekeeper.

Don't know if this person is an expert or not, but....

Housekeeping

Not many people realize that they can tip their housekeeping cast member. It is not required to do so, but it is a nice gesture to leave a little something at the during your stay.

This site gives you tips on how much to tip in general, then says alot of CMs cannot take tips and can be fired for it?

So..... I'm just gonna keep on tipping whoever cleans my room, moves my luggage, or serves me food and drink.

+1

We've tipped housekeeping every single day for countless trips over the past 39+ years, left it in a variety of locations, and have never had them not take a tip. :thumbsup2
