Why we dislike Americans.

Just FYI, this article is almost 5 years old. Its from April 2002.

M.

Didn't know when it was dated, it was just sent to me that's all.

Whenever it was written, I think the points remain valid.
It was an eye opener even for me!

I don't think this thread is funny or light hearted at all. On the "Reasons Why I Dislike Canada" thread there were tons of funny posts poking fun at us Canadians. Why can't the Americans be ok with us poking fun at them? All this need for reassurance throughout the thread that it is just for fun is boring to read.

That said, Why I dislike Americans: They can't take a joke if their at the brunt of it.

Also, they always make fun of my accent, but I don't have an accent, you do!

Oh I forgot:

Why I dislike America: I can't find a Ceasar anywhere and their iced tea tastes gross!

I found that article informative...even as a Canadian.

I don't think the point of the article was that Americans dislike us....simply that many Americans barely know we exsist.

There is a hilarious show on the CBC (Canadian TV station) were Rick Mercer interviews Americans (general public, university professors, even staffers in state government buildings) about Canadians. He makes hilarious comments about outrageous things (we aren't on a 24hr clock like Americans, we are just getting a second zip code or electricity in our government buildings) and waits to see if anyone questions it. Also many congratulations were sent to our Prime Minister...Prime Minister TIM HORTON...(the name of a popular Canadian coffee shop) from spokes people for various heads of states.

I certainly don't hate Americans...I love travelling in the US!:thumbsup2

If memory serves me correctly, they were congratulating Prime Minister Tim Horton on his "double double".:rotfl: :rotfl:

And the Americans objecting to this thread are....?

i'm an american and i take no offense-i find this thread quite funny.

forgive us if we're a bit out of step and ignorant, but cut us some slack-realy the only picture of 'canadian life' we've ever been exposed to is- the mckenzie brothers on sctv, the possum lodge guys on the new red green show, and for some of us real oldies-the original degrassi shows. not using this as an excuse-it just kind of the same thing some of us in california encounter with the exports of the worst tv depictions of us (most of us are neither tree hugging/granola munching/new agers nor oc/baywatch airheads).

personaly my experience in canada left me in awe of the beauty, and impressed by the genuine kindness and hospitality. one of the reasons we're looking to move to washington state is to be in closer proximity to visit.

I still love ya.:love2:

LOL! No slack given to a county who can't/doesn't realize (or take the time to learn) we live almost exactly the same way you guys do!

When I meet people from North Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama who wonder how I got out of my igloo to get to WDW (or whereever I am) - there's no excuse for that.

I don't think anyone in Canada really beleives you're tree hugging/granola munching/new agers or oc/baywatch airheads - we think you're all movie stars ;)

igloos? now that's what ds was convinced was all we would see when we went to visit alaska:rolleyes: as for canada-he was so disappointed that none of the police looked like 'the real thing' (:confused3 -'like dudley do-right mom':rotfl: :rotfl: ).

I love watching 'talking to americans' with rick mercer! he is so funny and it really does give me the immpression that alot of americans think we are still living in the 1800's. not that thats a bad thing, just a funny thing.
Oh, and I love ketchup chips!
Another great show to watch that might give people a look into our lives is a cartoon called 'chilly beach'. It's like a canadian documentry.
So my mom is canadian and my dad is american, what does that make me,
canerican or amadian?
We still get a good laugh everytime my dad goes up on the 'ruff' to shovel the snow off!

My kids love Canadian money. It's purple and pink, like their Monopoly money. Just as useful as Monopoly money too, once we're home. Darn exchange rate.

Wow you must be a millionaire! since purple money = $1,000 and pink = $50... PM me and i'll give you my address to send that monopoly money :lmao:

Isn't the US going to colored money too now?

I am pretty sure they re starting to add colour to their money to they have to it is after all the cool thing to do all teh cool countries have it so they have to follow suit.

Didn't Walt's irish great grandparents farm in Canada? If so the irish have had the last laugh and trumped us all!

And I believe before that the family came from France (I read somewhere that they were from somewhere like Isney and the "D" is from, so D'Isney or some such).

So France might be able to claim making billions of people happy! Can you imagine France being the home of Disneyland? That would never work (dodged that bullet, hm?) :earboy2:
