Why the weekly photo contest rocks

I love seeing what some of the others have done on here, and have to admit to having equipment envy a bit...but the greatest thing about the weekly contest is it gets me looking through all my Disney pictures to see what I've got. For example, when I first looked at the topic for this week (castles) I was thinking I didn't really have many good castle pictures and was kind of bummed about it. But then I went back and started looking and discovered I had some nice shots that I had forgotten about. The other cool thing about looking back through the years is seeing the improvement in my pictures. Some of that is from moving from an early 1mp to a Canon A75 (3mp) to the Canon S3 that I've been dragging around for nearly 3 years now. But it's fun to also see how much I've learned about composition and how to get the most out of the camera I have. So if you'll indulge me, here's some pics that I didn't submit for the photo contest but am still happy to have taken.

This is from the 50th celebration, taken with the Canon A75. I had to adjust the lighting and boost the yellow, so it doesn't fit the rules of the photo contest.

This is a picture of Cinderellabration from that same year. I think the castle makes a terrific backdrop. It was sunny enough that the picture turned out nice without any help from me.

Moving on to the S3 pictures:
Last December, the magical "ice" up close and personal (handheld)

Lashed my monopod to a fence with velcro tape so I could get this one (1/8 sec exposure).

May, 1997. Rubbed out a trash can, hitchin' post, and some pedestrians with PSE

Same trip: Another pedestrian falls victim to the "Photoshop Mafia" (DW calls me that because I'm always rubbing people out).

Want to close with a big thanks to rtphokie for managing the contests :thumbsup2
