Why the split stays?

Just curious. :)

Is it because of a better deal or something?

I swear I HATE packing, unpacking everything at the hotel and then packing it back up. I couldn't imagine doing this twice!! But for a good deal I may be tempted! :lmao:

I know that some people do it if they spend long vacations at Disney... I've heard some say that they like to pick a resort closest to the MK and then switch to one closer to Epcot.....

I myself would prefer to just stay at one place. I'm with you in that I hate unpacking, packing, etc.... once we get settled-that's it for us :thumbsup2 We usually stay 7 nights so for us to move, it's just an inconvenience.... but I could see it for a change of scenery I guess for those fortunate enough to stay 10 days+++

We did it two years in a row, once between Pop and the CR and this year at Pop (again) and the AKL. We did it for 2 reasons: 1) as the PP said, we stayed down longer, and 2) we like to try new resorts, and for us it was like 2 mini vacations in one. While I agree with the PP that there's packing/unpacking to be done 2x, which is a bit of a pain, we like to start at a value and then try a deluxe without paying through the nose, as it were. Using DME is a God-send as they take care of moving your luggage. For us, there is no downside to a split stay, only positives, and we enjoy doing it. Next year we won't be splitting or staying as long (6 nights/7 days is what I'm hoping for) because financially it won't be feasible since my DD starts college :scared: :scared1:  in the fall.

Different people, different reasons.

Sometimes it saves money. Other times, maybe someone can't get all their nights in the same resort, or they add nights closer to their travel date. Or, people like to stay closer to the parks they are frequenting during parts of the trip.

We've done it before for all 3 of the above reasons. While I detest the whole pack/unpack routine, it is nice to experience 2 different resorts during one trip. As long as the stay is more than 1 night, the move is probably worth it for us. But I won't do it again, for just a 1 night stay. Been there, done that.

We have done one forced split, not enough days to be had at our preferred resort, and that cured me. It was the biggest pain in the rear ever on vacation. We had 3 nights at the AKL and then 7 nights at the Poly and for the first 3 nights, tried to live our usual vacation style out of our suitcases just to make the move easier plus all our snacks and libations. Couldn't wait to get out of AKL, hated it and the move is not all that swift. We had to wait till after 4pm for our stuff at the Poly.

We like unpacking all our stuff, loading up the fridge with our supplies and setting up the room for our uaual 9-12 night stay. We pack a portable DVD player and leave it hooked up the entire stay since WDW cable stations are horrible. Our resort room looks like and feels like our home, we pick our resort based on the one we enjoy the most, price is no object and the past 11 stays have been at WL, we'll probably stay nowhere else, we've tried a few in our time, 41 trips so far, so we enjoy the lodge and its location the most. Splitting just takes too much time and a change in resort living that we care not to do, but others like bouncing resort to resort, not much of a relaxing stay in my opinion.

When I went last month, our first night was at ASM, the next 8 were at Shades of Green, and the final night was at Pop.
We did this just to be able to take Magical Express to and from the airport.
We brought 4 suitcases with us, and only one of them had stuff needed for the first night. So packing & unpacking wasn't that big of a deal. And when we checked into POP, it was pretty much the same way.
But, I don't think that I'd do it that way again. It wasn't fun changing hotels, and swtiching from SOG to a value...it's just kind of depressing. I think that we'll just pay the extra to get to & from the airport.

We only do them on our long trips (14 or more). We split our stay between an EPCOT resort (BC or YC) and a MK resort (GF or Poly). It feels like we get the best of both worlds.

I would never, ever split a stay for a shorter time than 10 days.

We usually pack up the night before, sleep in, then call bell services to transfer the luggage. We don't usually do a park day that day. We'll either swim at the new resort or I've also booked the kids at kid activities (Wonderland Tea Party) and by the time they are finished the room is usually ready.

Twice we've stayed put the whole time (one time 15 nights at GF, the other 14 nights at YC). While it was nice not to have to pack and unpack I like splitting our time between the two areas.

Why?

Because there are several resorts that I love.

Our split stay this summer was 1 night AKV/9 nights BCV.

We only stayed 1 night at AKV because we'd spent Christmas week there in 2007. Next time, we need more nights there! Love it!

We are doing a split stay this trip. Our first half we are staying at AKL for a relaxing resort stay. We will hit the parks....maybe. I have a massage planned, pool time planned and yummy dinners planned. Thats it. Our second half will be at the BCV for the food and winde festival. We plan on eating lots of food and drinking wine. I love being able to walk back to the resort. This will really feel like 2 seperate vacations.

I also wanted to add, there is just 2 of us. No kids. I could see how this would really be hassle if there were children who needed naps and such.

We've been doing split stays for a few years now. The Poly is our favorite resort, but we like to stay at different places, doing the split stay allows us to do both:)

I switched twice. The first time, I thought I wanted a cheapo vacation (plus I have this goal of staying in all the WDW hotels at least once)...but once I spent a couple days at the All-Stars, I changed my mind. The second time, I went with someone whose heart was set on the Poly, but it was sold out for the first 3 days of our vacation. So, we did three nights at a mod (scratched POR off the list :) )and the last 9 at the Poly.

I'm never, ever switching again. It is SUCH a pain in the buttinski. If something is sold out, it's sold out. We'll stay somewhere else. Them's the breaks.

Never, EVER again.

Hi
We did a split stay for the first time in August. I was originally booked at POFQ for 7 nights, but then a late summer discount came out and we decided to stay 3 nights at the WL and 4 nights at POFQ. It was a little bit of a pain packing stuff again, but we moved to POFQ on our day off from a park and it was so worth it to try WL. I always wanted to stay here and couldn't pass up the great rate!! Now I only want to stay at the WL.

We stay at DVC resorts and always do a split stay. We do it so we only have to add the dining plan to part of our trip. We book the primo one and it's way too much fine dining for an entire trip. So for the first few days we pig out and enjoy Cirque, mini golf, and the watercraft etc. We then return to reality - counter service and food in our resort room.

We did a split "reservation" this year for first time, staying at SAME resort. We wanted to come in BEFORE free dining started and added some days to beginning of trip. We were told that we would be staying in same room and did not need to unpack and re-pack to move. We were also told to go to guest services to check out and then check back in on our 2nd half and that they could not just "re-do" stuff without one of us there. Checked with CM at registration area and was told that I should come back at 6am to beat the crowd (free dine check ins and was told 900 rooms were being changed out)

Well, I was VERY IMPRESSED with how they handled it at POR> We did keep room and all was great. The only thing was that at 6am I arrived to find out that they could do nothing till 7am because of a computer update. So I waited (turns out, with some fellow DIS'ers actually, ;) ) and just before 7 they took care of everything. The line was no more than 15-or so by then anyways, guess people slept in. (In past I saw Lines OUT OF the ENTIRE area, CRAZY!!)

I do not think I would like to "move resort to resort" though, as once I unpack and all, I wanna just go have some fun and not think about packing!

We are doing a split stay next year, 4 nights at CSR and 4 at CR. Doing it this way lets us stay at CR for our first time there, cost wise. It would have cost us over $2500 to stay 8 nights at CR alone but doing a split we get to try out 2 places we have never been to for $700 less ($1800).

The only reason I would do a split stay is if the resort I wanted to stay at didn't have enough nights for me. I would hate having to pack and unpack in the middle of my vacation!

We have done split stay twice because other family members were spending half of the vacation with us and they will not pay for a deluxe. So we stayed POFQ for 4 nights with my in-laws then when they left, we moved to Poly for 4 nights.

I do not mind repacking, it goes quick, it doesn't have to be perfect. And we just let WDW get our luggage, we go to a park, and return to the other resort and our luggage is waiting for us. I think it is fun to stay at two resorts. :goodvibes

We split our stays the last couple of trips. It's fun to experience two different resorts and mid-week it's like you're going on vacation all over again when you get to check into the second hotel. We usually stay 3 or 4 days at one resort, then 3 or 4 days in the other. Since we live right out of our suitcases (except DBF who :insists: on putting all of his clothes in the drawers :sad2:) it's very easy to just have bell services stop by and pick up our suitcases and transfer them to a new resort. It's also gives us the opportunity to stay at the deluxe hotels, without shelling out the big bucks to stay a whole week.
