Why the obsession with SDD?

It is so much more fun than SDMT. I laughed the entire way through the ride. It was just fun. It is zippier and has a bit more thrill to it. Then you add in lack of other young child appropriate rides and it’s newness and you have the answer.

I thought it was just okay. Take it with a grain of salt, though. I stood in line for 75 minutes in the sweltering sun (and it was about 100 degrees). They had some fans up but not working. I literally thought I would expire in that line. I do hear they have improved the queue for cooling. I think the excessive heat and waiting changed my perspective.

Going back in November to try to ride at night (standby again) so maybe I'll have a better opinion.

I’m excited for this ride for the same reason I love Disney parks and movies in general. They seem to find this magical sweet spot that removes the generation gap and people of all ages are able to connect and find enjoyment together. It’s hard to find entertainment that simultaneously caters to younger children and adults.

Since half of my enjoyment from these types of rides comes from experiencing it with my children I doubt it would be as high of a priority for me on an adults only trip, but that’s just personal preference:)

As others have stated: it's new, has fun theming, is kid friendly, and has enough "thrills" for adults to enjoy.

I will add that because of the all above, and the fact the ride capacity isn't great, it creates a demand to ride it.

Slinky Dog is a great ride for what it is. It's meant to be a cutely themed family roller coaster and it succeeds wonderfully in that. Would I ever wait an hour in line for it? Probably not now - but I would have when I hadn't ridden it before because if you love Disney you want to do all the new stuff. It's definitely my favorite of the family coasters in the parks. And people wake up at 5am because having a good FP plan can make the difference between standing on lines for 1 hour or 6 hours over the course of a full day. I'm there regularly in November at a moderately but not crazily busy time and I often go a full day without standing on any line (or maybe just 1 line) for more than 15 minutes. Getting my choice of pre-booked FP makes doing that a lot easier!

Yeah - there are many rides where I think enjoyment is inversely proportional to time spent on line. I love Peter Pan but every time I walk by that 90 minute line I wonder how many people get off and say "I waited 90 minutes for that?!?!?!?" It's our standard MK rope drop ride exactly for that reason (and for the great queue). As much as I love it, I'd never wait more than 15-20 minutes for that type of ride.

And the queue is so good that I feel like I'm missing something when I get a FP for it. I mean, I still have FP booked for PPF on two days for this trip, but RD is ideal to be able to see the queue without being stuck in the queue. Except last time, we really got there at the front of the RD pack, so we rushed through the queue, and I still felt cheated. Next time I go at RD, I'll probably take my time and just let people pass me while I look.

I wish Disney put that much effort into all their queues.

one and done for me.....made me motion sick. SDM is better for me and I can do RnR, EE, etc......just not worth the wait or a fast pass

It is quite possibly the smoothest roller coaster out there. I'm not pro-level coaster critic, but we do theme parks all over.

My only "complaint" is that they had a lack of foresight to require more capacity. The operational thruput is poor for a modern ride. I think this easily could have been a moving platform ride.

It is a cute and fun ride, but no way for me worth the chaos of rope drop. We make sure to have FP's.

I would take SDD over 7DMT any day of the week. It's just an overall more exciting and fun ride in my opinion.
^^^^This. All the way. SDMT is cute, but honestly, THAT is the one I don’t understand the line for! It’s super short and nothing special.
On the other hand, my whole family LOVED SDD.

Ironically, SDMT is actually longer in duration. Both are great rides, I just wished they were able to load and go faster.

What's "special" about 7DMT is that it's a modern coaster that has the smooth ride the legacy coasters in MK do not. Personally, I love the three mountains, but this time the last FP of our whole trip will be BTMRR with the hopes that DD (age 4) can "work up" to it. I think my best bet for getting her to enjoy a coaster is 7DMT. While Barnstormer looks like a better introductory coaster, it unfortunately falls prey to the fault of many kiddie coasters by being more rough and jerky.

you must not have ridden Hagrid's at IoA yet...the smoothest and coolest ride ever.

1. Its fun
2. Disney mob mentality is in full swing.(It will cool down in time just like FEA and 7DMT).

It’s only longer because it’s of the long slow down in the diamond cave. The coaster part is short.
