Why the baggage check before the race?

What is the baggage check and what do people put in their bags before the marathon/half-marathon at WDW? Is it a zoo trying to get your bag back at the end of the race? Is it better to have some one in your party (non-runner) hold your post-race bag? I was planning on putting the following in a bag and asking DH to bring it when he meets me after the race.

Post-Race Kit (Pre-pack and have Jason bring to the race)
• Cameras
• CherryPharm
• Crocs
• Towel
• Toilet paper
• Water bottle
• Pretzels
• Bannana
• Pastry of some sort
• Clean t-shirt
• Hair brush
• Chap stick
• Hair ties
• Lobster clip
• Diper rash ointment
• Body glide

Many runners will use baggage check because they do not have anyone to hold a bag for them, or there will be a miscommunication and they will not meet up immediately post race.

The way I works is that your ‘goody’ bag is a clear bag given to you with your race shirt. This IS the bag you must use to check. There is a rip off claim check that is zip tied to the bag for post race ID. Baggage claim used to be a zoo post race because until 2-3 years ago the tents were arraigned numerically. That means that if everyone had the race they expected one tent would be very busy while the others were idle. (i.e. the first tent would have the first 5000 numbers and these are the runners who would finish close to one another). Today you go through the tent with alpha characters for your name. It’s not specific but I choose my last name since there are just not that many names at the end of the alphabet. I find that for the most part the baggage check process works well – obviously there will be exclusions and issues every year that a few folks will have.

I put a small recovery meal/drink in my bag along with crocs a shirt and socks. I will cram in my wind suit just before checking.

From your list I am not sure that I would include the cameras (you want them during the race plus I would not put anything of real value in the bag) water bottle or body glide (unless you are applying pre-race). Also, there is a selection of Otis Spunkmire (sp) type pastries, bananas, fruit, and cliff builder’s bars at the finish. Also, lots of bottled water, PowerAde and cola.

but the crocs are so appreciated!!

I also include a dry washcloth - then I find a nice person that has a cooler of ice - selling water etc and ask if I can have my wash cloth dipped in there!! That was great... (IF not I use the washcloth and the water bottle - its just nice to clean my face!)

I've not thought of a hairbrush tho..
