I keep hearing about people's Tervis cups as a must have on a cruise. Why Tervis and not a regular water bottle for water/soda? Or are people bringing a water bottle (for water) AND a Tervis cup for soda?

Also, why is bringing your own preferable to the provided cups?

On our first couple of cruises we brought along our own mugs to use at the drink station, but now, we don't bother. Some people recommend them as they are bigger than the cups provided by DCL so less trips back and forth, but we honestly never found that to be a problem. We found the cups to be plenty big for our needs, and if we needed refills the drink station wa never that far away.

Since we travel carry-on only, space is at a premium, so I'm getting better at eliminating things that just aren't worth it for me to carry any more. Just my two cents - I'm sure there are others who feel it's a necessity - different strokes!

I don't bring them to the cruise; I buy them on the cruise. They are my fave souvenir with DCL. Get one with the year on it and it makes me happy. I actually discovered Tervis b/c of DCL, and even if I'm done with DCL (too expensive, not enough value, and we like Royal just as much if not more!) I'm thankful for the discovery.

Tervis is GREAT!! The main reason I use them is because they do not sweat all day long. Helps keep beverages colder longer. Often times I will fill my drink with coffee in the morning and go roaming around - keeps coffee warm longer and the same for cold beverages; even the ones mixed in my stateroom :-)
Beware that on some Disney Properties - they have knock offs that look like Tervis - but do not perform like Tervis. This mistake was made on our last stay.

Also the DVC mugs they hand out at the first day meetup they have on DCL. Fake Tervis.

Well, I guess it's a good thing they aren't handing those out anymore. I just got off the Dream and got a bunch of junky hats. On second thought, a fake Tervis might've been better, after all… :)

Tervis's are awesome - they really do keep things hotter or colder longer. I can fill a cup with just ice and fill with water repeatidly, and i still have ice at th eend of the day - its great

This is good to know. I actually purchased S'Well bottles for the trip. Someone else had recommended those. Have yet to try them out but they are supposed to keep beverage either ice cold or hot, for 6 hours, very cold or very hot for 10 hours and cool or warm up to 12 hours. And, you can put soda in them.
Had I known, we could have just waited and went with the Disney Tervis.

I love tervis, but I am turned away from their mugs. They make water bottles that are 24oz and have a completely sealing lid (no leak in bags). The also have a loop on them so they can be attached to bags with a clip if you have one. I do recommend if you get the tervis water bottle to buy a replacement lid...the lid that comes on them has a removable seal that sometimes leaks, where the replacement lids have a permanent seal. I use the 20% coupon at bed bath and beyond to save some money :)

We are bring water bottles for excursion's since they have a lid and yeti cups for the ship, mainly for the increased size.

We sailed on Wonder 10 years ago and leave on Fantasy in 15 days. We didn't even think about bringing our own mugs/cups back then and got along fine. I'm not planning to take them this time either.

Off topic, How does RCL stack up? We have done the Wonder, WDW, and will be doing Fantasy this month. We are walking away from Disney, because honestly, if we didn't have travel points to pay for this trip from our business we wouldn't be going. I'm amazed at the people who go back to back, its taken us 10 year to choke down the price.

Good tip! Nothing worse than a leaky water bottle.

Speaking of Bed Bath and Beyond, I saw a bunch that were Disney themed.

Why tervis cups? Because it is easy to fill up, plain and simple. They have tons of unique designs, a pretty nice warranty, and you can get add-ons, like handles. They insulate decent too.

There are likely other brands and styles, but people like the mugs for the above reasons.

First time cruiser on the Wonder next week with a silly question. If I don't bring my own mug/beverage container, just how large in ounces are the cold drink glasses at the beverage station? 16 oz? 24? Are there lids available? What size are the hot beverage cups? Same question about lids. I am going to bring a drink tray (Yes, I've been reading the "unusual items" to bring board). What flavors of soda/juice are at the beverage station?

You can call and get the lids replaced. They sent me 3 for free to replace the old ones. The new lids have the seal attached to the lid and they do not come loose.

They are like a small soda. I don't know ounces, but maybe 12?
From what I can remember, Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite and some type of non carbonated drink. No juice. We were surprised that the choices were so limited.
I don't recall ever seeing lids or straws, but I am not a soda drinker and wouldn't have noticed.

I believe the hot drinks are also like small coffee to go size. I think those did have a lid. They had coffee, decaf, assorted teas and hot chocolate.
