Why such a problem coming up with more popular attractions in Tomorrowland?

Has anyone else wondered about this? Obviously Space Mountain is totally awesome and the Speedway popular for years with the younger crowd, but other than Buzz Lightyear the Tomorrowland attractions just don't seem to be that great! Our family LOVES Carousel of Progress, but due to lack of popularity it is rarely open.... The Timekeeper sits closed 90% of the time... Alien Encounter turns to Stitch, which is viewed as complete trash... Astro-orbiter is lame ... and the Transit Authority (which we do really like to relax on) is almost always a complete walk-on.

I'm just curious if anyone else has thought this as well? I wonder whether the "Tomorrowland" theme is the problem, as if maybe the focus for 1st class attractions is on Future World in Epcot instead??

Why such a problem coming up with more popular attractions in Tomorrowland?

My guess, in oder of importance:
1) Lack of a sponsor.
2) Lack of dedication to the younger audience(s).
3) Lack of imagination for tomorrow.

Sad, but true (IMHO). Personally, I think this is where Disney should have put Mission:Space (it would certainly fit in here). But maybe the imagineers will come up with something that will draw the crowds in. Of course, if the Disney execs were smart, they'd just come over to the DISboards and ask us what to put in ( ;) ). I've seen some really terrific ideas for attractions!

Another problem is some perfect rides for it are being put in other parks to spruce up their attendance.

Star Tours. It's in another park. It's in Tomorrowland in Disneyland.
Mission Space. It's in Epcot.
Test Track. It's in Epcot.

I think the problem with Tomorrowland is that it grew into EPCOT and MGM. Anything remotely serious (like Mission: Space) will go to EPCOT and most movie based items will go over to MGM.

The other problem is a lack of space...where would they put a big time ride? Personally I think they should rebuild Horizons or Horizon-like ride over there. The concept would fit in pretty well with a tomorrow land and at the very end they could connect to a Free Fall ride mechanism to add in that extra thrill Disney seems searching for (he he). Make it all a dark ride to so that the upward launch is a shock.

Just read these boards and you'll find complaints about how crowded MK is, as compared to the other parks. I'm not sure how much the focus needs to be on adding more to MK. One or two big attractions per land is probably enough, at least until we start hearing complaints about how empty MK is compared to the other parks. :)

Well, I think one ride that has nothing to do with "Tomorrow" is the Indy Speedway. If going five miles an hour is what tomorrow is going to be like, I don't anything to do with it. If they teared that ride out, they would have plenty of space for a good ride.

I could spend a couple of hours in Tomorrowland just riding Buzz Lightyear. It's such a popular ride among kids AND adults that it almost overshadows the other rides. When we go to MK we head straight there. And if the line isn't long we ride over and over again.

Agree, the Indy speedway is a waste of space - and the lines are ridiculous for such a tame ride. A version of the DLP Space Mountain would be a welcome addition - the current one is great for younger riders, but a big coaster in MK would be great.

I think it's because our culture's previous fascination with 'tomorrow' has been replaced by dread as global warming, dwindling resources and increased terrorism marr the landscape that was previously occupied by missions to the moon and neat new gadgets.

I don't know about that. Over the next year, a record-number of television programs with futuristic foundations will be broadcast. There is clearly a very high degree of interest in such themes. Indeed, perhaps the disaspora of attractions with futuristic foundations (Mission: Space, Star Tours, etc.) reflects that this is a more general interest now, rather than a niche interest more readily relegatable to a single land in a single park.

Gee I think that's a pretty accurate prediction of what tomorrow is going to be like!!! At least around Atlanta anyway.

Space Mountain...my all time favorite ride..any park anwhere?

Buzz Lightyear doesn't hold a candle to MIB at Universal

Stitch which was alien? once again Universal outdoes them

Speedway should be taken out....can get that at any amusement park

The oldie but goodie COP should run all the time and Disney should promote it.
They should update last viewing and all would be fine....

If GM would re-sponsor and update CoP, it could be a big hit. I don't think people know about it, and that's why noone's on it. I think it has the potential to get just as much audience as Philarmagic or A Bug's Life or HISTA.

Also, since AT&T dropped SE, maybe whoever owns them now could come up with something clever for Tomorrowland.

:confused3 My family likes Tomorrowland.....just as it is...but I am fine with some areas of the parks not being "over the top"...I like predictable sometimes, it is a calming force during what can be a hectic day. O.K. Maybe the Orbiter could move along faster, but I like having things that are just the way as when Walt was planning them, but I can see the other side too....

and whats funny about that rides such as mission space and TT have nothing to do with the "future world." those rides would have been a little more approrpriate in MK in my opinion, especially mission space to go along with space mountain. i think tomorrowland has always been a problem for disney because "tomorrow" changes so fast its hard for them to keep up. the would need to make a huge capital investment to redesign and update tomorrowland and i doubt they would sink that kind of money into it.

it just continues to amaze me that rides like stich and buzz are in tomorrowland when they have nothing to do with the "tomorrowland" them just like test track at epcot.

I think most kids enjoy the buzz lightyear ride. That was the highlight of my boys' trip. That was the first ride they wanted to do and the last ride. These guys loved it.

Speaking of SE having no sponsor why, with all the cellphone and wireless providers that are out there now does no one sponsor this. To me it seems like perfect fit...towards the end of the attraction where they have everyone communicating from around the world to me it just seems like a no brainer for Cingular, Alltel or Sprint to be sponsoring that. :confused3

I know!! And they could really make something beautiful as you descend back down to Earth. An update on the last half of SE would do the ride wonders.
