Why split time between two resorts in one trip?

Can I ask you guys something? One time I think I read where if you want the dining plan for your entire stay you can't switch resorts in the middle of it. Is that correct?

You most certainly can have the dining plan. Like for instance we are staying at AKL Dec 1-5 and CSR Dec 5-9. We have the dining plan on our one package for 4 nights and the dining plan on our other package for 4 nights.

To do split stays you have to have two reservations. So you just add the dining plan to your first and your second reservation.

Follow me? Or confused...

I really like staying put in one place - however we have done lots of split trips. In fact our summer trips are usually always split trips because we stay for at least 2 weeks. For a short trip (7 days or less) I wouldn't split. This July we are doing 10 nights at GF and 5 nights at YC so we can have the best transportation to both MK and EPCOT and MGM. Also although the kids love GF they would definitely miss SAB in the summer.

Ahh...I would love GF/YC split:)
Next year we are planning to do a "split" with Vero Beach and either GF or YC...it all depends on our trip next week:) However I am leaning towards GF..it will be our 5 year FTW Anniv...and GF is where we stayed:) DH is thinking YC..close proximity to more things for our older kids....tough choices..lol...I am not complaining!

I am also interested in this, for those that have done it, how do you make the res on the web site. or is it better to call the res center? also, do you pay your account up when you check out of the first?

arrghh, how do ye get the scallywags to steer yer course without a'having to keehaul the lot of the landlubbers? arrrhhh arhhh.

I have always been in the camp that avoids a split stay, for the reasons you mention. This October, however, my family will have our first split stay. The DVC owner we are renting points from only had enough points for a one week stay, and after booking we decided to extend our vacation for a few days, resulting in the need to split our stay between two resorts (or staying at one, but having to check out and check back in). We are staying 2 nights at the Swan, and then moving over to AKV for a week. We will be at WDW for a total of 10 days. I have kind of gotten used to the idea, and am actually looking forward to it. I think it will be fun to spend a bit of time around the busy boardwalk area, being moving to the serene AK area. I think if I were staying for a week or less that I would not want to hassle with a split stay.

you do have to buy 2 separate packages though (which can be more $$)..... we did our package w/dining for the first part of the trip, and bought tickets long enough for our entire stay. Then we just did 'room only' for the stay at the second resort. I know that some people just buy a 1 day base ticket in order to get the second package, but it would have cost us much more money to do that than it would to just pay for meals for those few days. (I should add though that we are not super-fancy dining people....we're all about the character meals, LOL!)

If you think you are only going on that one time "trip of a lifetime", like I did (planning our fifth trip now ;) ), you might want to see as much as you can including the resorts. We have always done split stays; we can't afford the deluxe for our whole stay but might splurge for a couple of nights. Next trip though, it's one resort and stay put! I am really looking forward to that.

We did it b/c we wanted to see both resorts so we decided to do a split stay.

We're doing a split stay next month just so we could save some money but still experience the Poly, which will be our first deluxe!! (Thank you AP rates!)

We have been to DW 10x's plus and have liked dividing up our stay. We usually stayed a total of 8 days at WDW so we would split it. We loved the variety of not only the rooms but it gave the kids a chance to try out different swimming pools and food courts. If you can afford to stay 2-3 days at the higher end resorts it's nice to do so. Only takes 10 minutes to pack the suitcases and if you have a rental, load them up. If not they will shuttle you to the next resort. TRY IT.

Sorry I don't speak pirate but I understood your first part.

The reservations are two different reservations/packages so it doesn't matter which way you do it. This also means that down payments must be paid on each one. Actually the resorts don't even know that you just stayed at another resort or that you are moving on to another one. They will assist you in moving your luggage but you must call baggage service/valet and arrange it yourself. When you leave one resort you pay up the account for that one then start a new account at the next one.

We almost always do a split stay. Count me as another that doesn't fully unpack my suitcase. I would not do it if I stayed at a resort for less than four days. That would be a hassle and not leave enough time to settle in. Split stays make the vacation seem longer and more varied.

Another advantage is the dining plan. We do the dining plan but at just the first resort. Then at the second one we rent a car and spend some time offsite.

P.S. I lied - I do speak pirate ya skurvy mates. pirate:

We tried the split stay several years ago, 4 days at Yacht Club nad 4 days at Poly. We were able to try different resorts and Disney does make it easy to move. However, it is just my wife and I and no kids so we found it pretty easy. In DEC 2007 we are staying 5 nights at POR and 2 nights at AKL. We always wanted to try AKL but the price for a full week was too high for us so we are going to try it for this trip.

We were at Disney for our wedding in April and through the 2 weeks we were there, we ended up staying at All-Star Movies (1 night), Boardwalk (9 nights), Grand Floridian (1 night), Disney's Vero Beach (1 night), and Saratoga Springs (2 nights). Although I know this was a bit excessive, I don't think we will ever split a stay again.

We will be doing a split stay next month, we will check-in for one night at POP, then head to BWV (Boardwalk view :cool1: ) for 5 nights then onto the Poly for 2 nights. We have never stayed at the Poly and I'm very excited to check it out. We were initally booked there for 8 nights but a BWV deal came along for our dates that we couldn't resist! We love the BW and don't think a chance for a Boardwalk View will come along again (during F&W no less :cool1: ). We will do the DP on our BWV ressie only, others are room only ressies. I'm excited to do the split stay and will just keep most things in my suitcase, and live out of a carry-on while at POP.
