Why so much sold out Oct 7-10

That has been our week 10 of the past 12 years. As you get closer to the Columbus Day weekend, the crowds grow exponentially. The weekend before(Oct 1, 2) this year won't be bad, by Thursday it will be wall to wall people if the trend of the past few years holds. Food and Wine, Fall Break, and Halloween Parties all pull folks in on those dates. It's not quiet like it used to be.

Here in the northeast, a lot of school districts are off on 10/3, 10/10 and 10/12. The 3rd and 12th are the Jewish high holidays and the 10th is Columbus Day.

Unexcused absence rules differ from state to state and county to county. Some school districts have off entirely for the Jewish high holidays.

We've been during thanksgiving before so know how to plan and still have good time but never expected this weekend to be that crazy. Luckily I was able to snag FEA, 7DMT, PPF, and Soarin for the 4 days we were there this morning. This was spur of moment trip as our APs run out in Nov. We made REALLY good use of them this year with two weeks last Thanksgiving(offsite), 2 weeks in May(SSR)/June(AKL) and now 4 days in Oct(ASM). We typically only go every 3-4 years and then do APs and go two years in row and make APs worthwhile. Its much less stressful when you are there 2 weeks as you don't have to rush. We actually enjoy resorts some.

Don't know where you live but a religious based holiday is an excused absence here. Has been since I was in school, 40 years ago

Religious holidays, especially the High Holy holidays, are always excused here - but both the school where I teach and my kids' public school district have the 3rd & 12th off. I'm sure a ton of people will take the 11th off to make it a 5 day extended weekend.

We have been many times in Oct and we have also noticed/asked about quite a few UK visitors during this time. They also have a fall school break.

7DMT, Space Mountain, and Peter Pan FP+ all currently gone for Friday, 10/7. Starting to wonder just how crowded it's going to be.

FP+s are harder to come by in the MK during party season, because operating hours are so short on party days, and crowds flock there on non-party days.

I don't think that would be legal, marking an unexcused absence for observing a religious holiday. I have a friend who is an Orthodox Jew, she and her family follow it strictly, including not getting in cars on the Sabbath or religious holidays.

Unexcused absence or not, people will certainly do it. I'm doing it the weekend before - my kids have one day off for Rosh Hashanah but I have two. Mine will miss school on Tuesday. I would have done it on the 11th, but flights were significantly cheaper the weekend before. I'm sure it's a contributing factor. Not sure where your 'not here' is, but it happens everywhere I've been.

Yes, but it's generally 10+ days unexcused, not 1. Can't imagine a school district that has the money to go after any student with a single unexcused absence. Heck, sometimes I forget to send in a note when my kids are sick - that counts as unexcused until I do.

Have you heard of that ever really happening? My kid had 10 sick days last year and we received that dumb letter, our district doesn't differentiate between excused/unexcused because not everyone can go to the doctor and you don't need to go to the doctor for every illness and they want you to keep your kids home for the slightest illness. We received a call from the office informing us the letter was coming but to disregard it.

Freedom of religion, going to school would violate their religious beliefs. Of course, just that one day.

I work with a bunch of school districts in North Jersey that are closed on the 3rd and 12th for the Jewish Holy Days as well as the 10th for Columbus Day.

The OP asked why it appears so busy in WDW 10/7-10/10 and I offered that up as a possible factor. Whether people are taking these days as absences, excused or unexcused, is immaterial. If people whose children attend a district that's closed or they themselves are off work, they might choose to visit WDW then.
