:confused3 Unbeliveablely long list on the timeshare store for resale at Saratoga Springs, anyone have any idea why ? :confused3

I haven't looked to see whether the list is unusually long or not. My anecdotal guess would be that many SSR owners are still paying off their loans. I've sometimes heard people on the boards saying they were purchasing using their home equity.....in today's market some people may now be regretting that decision. On the other hand, some of it is probably just the ordinary turnover of DVC resorts -- as the years go by people have life changing events that cause them to sell -- divorces, deaths....maybe even marriages that change priorities.

Not to mention its their biggest resort which means that it will have the most sales and the most resales.

Your question is innocent enough by most people's perception, but the SSR owners (maybe Millz is one of them) have been exhausted by trying to defend SSR's value. If I hadn't read so many threads bashing SSR, I (as a potential buyer) may have innocently asked the same as you, because I would not want to buy there if I could find the reason that people are seemingly retreating. The following link probably isn't the best example, but read through the posts and you will see why the SSR'ers are so defensive. I am exhausted and I don't even own there. Aside from perceived complaints, consider the following:

****As the largest of the DVC resorts, it is likely to have a proportiate number of contracts up for sale.

****Economy. SSR'ers likely bought in the last four or five years, right? If you invested your money in DVC in the last few years (thinking that we were finally financially secure after 911) you are probably most affected by the recent ecomony swing. I am no economy wiz, so this is just speculation.

****SSR does have it's flaws, but it is newer. In all fairness, I am reading a whole lot more about people's complaints about staying at a dated and unclean BWV, BCV and OKW.

Nadinenurse, your question is certainly valid ::yes:: and I too would wonder if considering a purchase at SSR. I seem to remember a number of years back a large number of OKW resales and this has probably been true from time to time over the years of most DVC resorts. We are considering an add-on at SSR. It may seem to be not so popular from posts that seem to run a bit negative at times, but it is a very beautiful resort with much going for it and with all the buzz about Tree House Villas soon to be part of SSR it may soon increase in popularity :thumbsup2 .

Many people & as many reasons for selling off a contract as pps have mentioned here. These boards are such a great place to ask questions you have & excellent source of information. I'd also add that sometimes members sell a contract in order to purchase at the latest DVC resort that becomes available because they may want home resort booking advantage at what's newest and extended years to expiration date.

Best wishes on your decision :)

I actually toured SSR in August, and the only reson I would not want that resort is b/c I live 15 minutes away from Saratoga in NY, and it would be nuts to stay there, it looked beautiful and actually it's location to DTD would be a perk for some, and it's size also lends to not being shut off from good vacation dates, which reportedly happens at the smaller resorts very frequently, The tour of the Grand Villa was AMAZING , if you have never seen one, you must go in , it truely is a "home" , the diinning room table would be great for Thanksgiving, so I was so surprised to seen so many resales for such a new resort..., but I will probablly be purchasing AKL as I like to be away from everything.. and just enjoy the quiet of even sitting in the lobby on a big comfy couch..and we love BOMA.. but those resale's for SSR are financially attractive !!! I'm really torn what to do...so attempting to view every option, which is why I posted the original question, not to inflame, but to be informed...thanks to all Nadine

Follow your heart not your checkbook. If you love AKL buy AKL. We love BCV and have stayed at others and enjoyed ourselves BUT nothing will ever be as great as BCV to us. Follow your heart

I love DVC and that's why I bought it. I does not matter what resort I purchased- I love having the ability to stay on property. I am an owner at SSR and have stayed there many times. Never once have we thought- oh, we should have stayed close to Epcot or oops we should have stayed at a place with a better pool! We purchased SSR because we love Disney!!! Why are people so negative about SSR on this board!

Yep, there have been a number of threads like this one already, with some speculating the cause is that SSR is the dog of DVC resorts and others defending the resort. I don't own there (although considering it because of the treehouses being added) but always thought it had its good points (including having the golf course pro shop right there for the LBV course). In any event, looking at resales, it is not just SSR that has more resales than what I am used to seeing in many times in the past but all the resorts. My personal belief is that what you are seeing now is mainly caused by one major event -- the economy sucks royally. There are a number of owners who are feeling the pinch of that problem and need to sell. Moreover, at the same time, you have fewer people willing to buy (and probably credit restrictions are rising). Put those two together and you get more inventory and lower prices. This is just following what is going on in the main home market but it took somewhat longer to develop.

We chose SSR over AKV (and not that we hated AKV, AKV is a lovely resort) not due to price but due to amenities and how they fit with our needs.

People get the idea from the large resale listings that SSR is not a desirable resort. There are many factors (listed below, actually) that contribute to SSR having such a high number of resale listings. Once AKV sells out, the same may happen to AKV listings - as AKV is now the 2nd largest DVC resort and it will account for the most recent sales.

We are SSR owners and love it. My guess is, the economy is horrible and people are facing hard times. When $$ gets tight, usually the first thing to go is the amenities. I think there are pros and cons to every DVC property, but as several others have pointed out, SSR is the newest and many people probably financed their purchase to the hilt. While I regret that we didn't buy in sooner, I don't regret that we waited because we may have been one of those folks putting our points up for sale.

This topic should be a sticky. It seems like a new thread is started about this at least twice a week.

Just because you love Disney, you still have the right to choose a hotel that satisfies your priorities or desired amenities.

-People who want to be close to Epcot/DHS can choose Beach Club or Boardwalk.
-Beach Club has the most amazing pool complex at any Disney resort.
-At Animal Kingdom Villas, you can see animals from your balcony.
-OKW and SSR provide spacious, relaxed resorts that are secluded from the parks.
-Wilderness Lodge appeals to many families who love the rustic national park atmosphere.
-Bay Lake Tower captures Contemporary fans, monorail addicts, and MK lovers.

I've visited SSR, and I could never stay there. In fact, we exchanged an Interval week for a stay at SSR (we own at II, unfortunately), but we had to cancel it because the hotel does not suit our needs at all. We stayed at BC instead. So if I ever decide to buy into DVC one day, my home resort would make a huge difference to me. Of the existing hotels, my number one choice would be BCV, followed by BLT - I could never settle for SSR or OKW just because they're Disney.

We are in this boat as well! All the DVC locations are great!

I think SSR is almost always available at the 7 month mark. This makes having a 11 month priority almost useless. I also think the guides really sold SSR owners on the idea of trading out at the 7 month mark. This has become much more difficult due to the large numbers of Saratoga owners. Other owners can get in at home or SSR. Saratoga owners are much more likely to just have Saratoga.

SSR seems like a lovely resort, and I love the decor. I'm not in a huge hurry to stay there because I assume that DH and I will eventually decide to go to Disney at the last minute and will have no choice but to stay at SSR.

In a way, SSR serves an excellent purpose. It is the last minute reservation resort. I consider that yet another perk of DVC, but not a very good reason to own there.

With points selling for about $75, low maintenance fees, and a 2054 end date, plus the new and exciting Tree House Villas...SSR starts looking a whole lot better.

I think SSR points will definitely sell now IF the economy gets back on track, but owners won't make a PROFIT anytime soon.
