Why so crowded today Jan 3

Any idea why the lines are so long today? I know it is a busy week but the lines are longer than anytime last week according to the app. 240 for gringots 180 for Kong etc. It is getting me scared for when I arrive on Sat.

I was there today and it was madness. The cold shut down the coasters and people didn’t want to go on the water rides. There were not enough rides to absorb the mass crowds. I had express pass and we were seeking out waits below 200 minutes. I can’t imagine what people did without express. And don’t get me started about that castle show which criples the ability to get on forbidden journey. It was a miss day. I haven’t ever seen it so crazy before. You bet I told guest services about my experience.

Not sure if it matters but all local schools are still out on break...that might have brought in some folks.

The parks are always really busy this time of year and people always wonder why. They figure that Christmas is over and crowds should be gone. It happens every year. There are a lot of out-of-country visitors at this time.

All the crowd calendars are predicting that it will slow way down Sunday through the next week. Is that everyones feeling? I think most schools are back starting early next week and most of the holiday crowd will be leaving.

I would agree.
I'm surprised so many people are surprised that new years week is crowded. I've never looked at a crowd calendar and I just assumed they'd be packed (holiday + school vacation = masses)

I think having several top attractions closed is what impacted waits so bad. We went early on the 3rd in the rain and managed to get quite a bit done. Actually we got the most done on the evening of January 1. In the park today and seeing hulk, rrr and Kong closed was brutal for every other ride

Why are those rides closed? Was it the cold or just some other issue?

Temperature has to be above 50 with little to no wind. If your morning is cold expect a delayed start. Totally screws morning touring plan. We did manage to see everything at US and UIA without express pass over 3.5 days this week

OK. We will be there Tuesday, but the low is 63 for the whole day. That makes me feel better.

South Florida school are still on break and by now the blockout for some passes is over and those together are a good reason for the crowds

Last year was there

the first weekend of January was very damp/cold, crowds were light at U

Not sure of U crowds the next weekend but MK was absolutely slammed the Sunday before MLK. Whole weekend way busier than we had experienced just a few years prior. Not enough to keep me from doing it again this year
