Oh, I’d absolutely like to put those spaces to better use as well. As I said in another thread, maybe some dedicated 1820 Society space?

That is a great idea and I hope they consider it on the new ships. I think that is an under served demographic on DCL.

There's so many casinos in the US (and a few in Canada), many 100miles within any major city, how desperate are ppl to get their 'fix'? I don't get it.
The people that gamble will find ways to gamble. If they want to gamble on a boat, they'll find a boat that will accommodate them. Or they'll just do their gambling on shore.

My only objection to having a casino on a cruise ship is the stench.
One thing I noticed on Harmony of the Seas was that the ventilation on the non-smoking side of the casino was quite good. Didn't fully remove the smell of smoke in the air but definitely made things bearable. I do hope that in the future Royal can make the casinos smoke free. Ideally the ships would be smoke free, full stop but I get that smokers need a spot to feed their habit.

Why do they need a dedicated space? Can't they just meet up where ever they want onboard?

Well, it seems like they are in a twilight zone. They can’t go to Vibe, but they can’t fully indulge in the adult areas and get a drink. Seems like they would not mind an area where they could hang with adults but not feel excluded because they aren’t 21.

Not an urgent need, I grant you, but still a better use of space than a casino, IMO.

Why can't people who don't like casinos...just not go to the casino?

The bars/spas/chapels are all, often, smaller, out of the way venues.

As noted, casinos, typically, won't do well in an out of the way spot. While I may not like casinos, the flashing lights, ding-ding-ding, and general tackiness look about them are not what I like to walk through, or hang around in.

As first time cruisers this is a good thing not a bad one. I want quite laid back locations that are not packed. Although from others it sounds like they are more specific hours some places might fill up more.

I would say watch the vlogs that are out there for Disney cruise. If the shows and activities are not for you that's fine. Disney needs to stay Disney and let others fill that casino void.

I plan on just bringing my Nintendo Switch if things get "boring" I can easily pop out the switch and play a party game in one of these low attended lounges. Heck random people might even want to join as well.

If I wanted to gamble I would personally be in Vegas where I have options as I wouldn't expect a DCL casino to offer much of variety likely and it's very unlikely to have things like poker.
I brought my Switch with headphones on our cruise a couple of weeks ago. I alternated between that and a book depending on my mood. I haven’t traveled with a handheld in a long time. It was perfect for relaxing 😎

People who don't like casinos on a cruise ship... have no choice but to go through the casino. Nobody builds casinos in low-traffic areas, because there's no profit in that. They build them in places that every passenger has to walk through multiple times a day, so that they attract as many players as possible. Even without smoking, they are extremely loud and have brightly flashing lights. For guests with even mild sensory issues (which includes many neurotypical children and adults, not just those with autism or SPD), casinos are literally painful to walk through. DCL cruises are a haven for a lot of special needs families, because Disney ships and cast members are far better equipped to help them have a safe and enjoyable vacation. Lacking a nightmarish casino is a huge factor in that.

But imo the spa is huge and useless. For us we would never spend that kind of money on any ship or even on land. I do realize some do, just not sure how many. If we were designing a ship that would be gone, less than zero percent chance of this ever happening.

On the Edge you walked by it, don’t think it was overly loud, but you weren’t forced to walk through it. In some ways it was not all that noticeable to us. It was well designed, in a main location, but wasn’t in the way of foot traffic.

I just wish bingo wasn’t so expensive, we never played due to the cost. My mom did and she was lucky enough to break even. My history in casinos is that I have gone 3 times and played penny or nickel slots with a 20 buck out of pocket max and I think I am ahead a few bucks. For me the 10 to 15 hours of entertainment was worth it. Never felt the need to go back though.

Take a look at deck 4, if the link doesn’t go directly to that, and you will see how they set the casino off to the side and the very wide walkway doesn’t go through the casino. It can be done well.

Disney always does things differently. They could put a casino somewhere in the area where all the bars are currently which is well out of the way of any high traffic areas.

Most of the bars/lounges on the Dream class are in a high traffic area from midship to aft (dining rooms).

On the Magic class, the bars/lounges are more forward and a bit removed from the regular traffic flow.

I have to walk through the spa every time I go to the gym. You also have to go to the bars to participate in most of the trivia games. I've never walked through a casino on Royal.

You also mentioned that your cruise fares could be cheaper because of a casino but on DCL, I would highly doubt it.

I am curious about this and I am not so sure I agree with you. It seems possible to me that a big reason why Disney cruise fares are so much more expensive than those from other cruise lines with similar amenities is the fact that Disney's ships don't have casinos. Casinos bring in lots of money. That has to be made up somehow.

I think the point was that if DCL added a casino to one or more of the ships, the company would pocket all that additional revenue. It would not “pass the savings along to us,” so to speak.

They’re constantly sailing full (or near enough) as-is. They have absolutely no need, no incentive, to lower fares.
