If you own then you get to find out the secret DVC Handshake. It's well worth the $15,000.00

HBC....now you know you're not supposed to be giving out that kind of information. Don't make us put you on double-secret probation!

I usually rent points. I'm thinking about having a family reunion at WDW in about 18 months (if family bites when I mention it at XMas). So I thought it might be a good time to buy into DVC, rather than renting.
Is purchasing worth it in your opinion?
I'm not sure I see ALL the benefits...
This is not a bad question...it is at the heart of many people's concerns about buying into DVC. My response would be that if you like the DVC accommodations over the other on-site options, and plan on going to WDW at least every other year for the next few decades, then it is probably well worth purchasing. Look at the long thread on this board about problems with renting...even though it's a small percentage the bottom line is you are not dealing with a company like Disney with that transaction, you are dealing with an anonymous individual.
But beyond that, it really comes down to how important it is to continue to vacation "DVC Style" at WDW for many years to come. If you see the pattern continuing, it will be better for you to purchase rather than rent points year after year. Good luck in your decision!

One "silly question" deserves another.
Any one feel like there are enough DVC members at this point?
As much as I want to be helpful, I'd love to say "NO, DVC is not for you." Now that statement would be a little selfish as I love my DVC and it is a great program. It just would be nice if there were no more members.
Anyone else have that knee jerk reaction to potential new owners?
No flames please just being honest.
I'm not flaming you, but don't share your concern. To me, the more DVC members, the more influence we wield as a group. Think about it...100,000 members coming to WDW (and VB & HH) every year and spending money. That's a huge group of people who are loyal customers, and that number is growing. It would seem to me that it can only help us in negotiating discounts and perks.
And I think some of the perks we get are because Disney is still building and selling new DVC properties. Those perks are surely part of the sales pitch and as long as they're selling, they won't want to pull back on them.
Of course, if I hadn't bought where I wanted to stay the most, then I might have a different opinion. Then I'd see new members as "competition" for 7 month window resort reservations. Fortunately, I bought where I wanted to stay.
By the way, this is a good question that probably should have been on its own thread rather than taking this one off topic.
