Why should I upgrade to Poly LV concierge?

Hi

Here's the deal! I really want to try concierge at the Polynesian and have heard SO many people raving about how great it is. I was considering switching our August ressie from standard LV to concierge LV but....

1. Standard LV rooms are larger (in Tahiti) - there are 5 of us so any extra space counts!
2. Standard LV rooms have double sinks in the bathroom, as opposed to just one sink in concierge room bathrooms
3. There is no walkway between the LV rooms and the beach from Tahiti (there is in front of Hawaii). The beach is more private and less crowded.
4. You can request Turndown service anyway (don't need to be concierge)

For these reasons, I can't justify the extra $150/night --- even though I really want to! As I see it at the moment, I would be paying all that extra cash and simply getting some food, a smaller room, worse bathroom and less private/serene location. Help me!

Please persuade me!

Sounds as if you really don't want to be persuaded. Perhaps staying LV in Tahiti is the ticket for your family and its needs. Anything that requires persuasion may not be the right thing for you! I would hate to see you spend the extra $$$$ and then be disappointed or feel you didn't receive added value.

On the other hand, I'd rather spend the minimal extra $$$ for a GVC than stay LV without concierge. That's just our family though. . .I do remember the days when view was important, i.e., when we had young children. Now the view is unimportant because we don't spend a great deal of time in the room. One thought that does cross my mind, what happens if you don't receive a LV in Tahiti? There are other LV classified rooms at Polynesian. :confused3

You'll make the right decision for you and your family! Whichever you choose, enjoy the Polynesian.

That's the problem. I know that I will probably love it when I get there it's just the thought of not being in Tahiti now!

There is always the possibility of not being in Tahiti with a standard LV but it is fairly unlikely. The vast majority of LV rooms are located here, and even if we do get put elsewhere, we are staying for 10 nights so could always move to Tahiti as and when a room becomes available.

I know we will have a great trip anyway, but we enjoyed concierge at AKL so much, we are really keen to try it elsewhere....but maybe not at the Polynesian... ::MickeyMo

I agree with Tess, I do'nt think you want to be persuaded, and I think if you do decide to spend the extra money you'll end up second guessing your decision and fretting about it to the point that you wo'nt enjoy your vacation.

If you're seriously questioning a potential stay in LVC, I would forego it. We stay there for the convenience and usually have a wonderful experience. It is more expensive so if you are triple guessing, I'd probably stay where you're most comfortable with price and ammenities. Have a great trip! Threehearts

I usually stay GV concierge at the polynesian with an ap discount. But this year we are trying for an ap discount for lagoon view concierge. I decided that the kids would really enjoy the view as well as myself. Also, I am thinking about getting a first floor room so my 7 year old and I can run out to the beach area more readily. Either way you will have a great time I think, but maybe you might want to try even just once, the lagoon view concierge and say to yourself. If you don't think it is worth the extra money, then next time you will skip the concierge or the lagoon view. After going concierge once, I am hooked. I have a feeling that once I do lagoon view concierge, I will be hooked with that too! Carolyn

I AGREE! OP, just go with your gut -- it'll steer you to what's best for you and your family. :wizard:

You could split your stay and spend a few days in concierge. The Poly lounge is more convenient than AKL's CL unless you were on the 6th floor. With 5 people, the extra space in the lounge is great. I took the children to the lounge while my husband got ready and vice versa.

I wouldn't spend 10 days at any concierge. I love to split my stays. It feels like two vacations. We're splitting our upcoming trip between GF and AKL.

We stayed in the concierge at the Poly- lagoon view-- saw the castle from our balcony-- in 2001 and loved it! (best of all it was free because they had royally screwed up our reservation and booked 2 families into the same room). I have to say the concierge service was amazing while we were there, but I understand they have scaled it back now-- when we were there they served full meals at dinner. We loved it! YOu just need to wiegh how much you will actually use the concierge service. How often will you be at the hotel to get food. Will you book your PS's through them, etc.
