Why not SSR?

My info on a Bonnet Creek Drive Resort was told to me by a driver for SSR that picked us up at AK for our tour. He had been with Disney a long time and what he said made sense. The only other thing I remember him saying is that it was going to be designed around a golf course there and that it is going to be quite a few years out yet, as they are going to deal with those tree house villa things first. Man did they look beat up when we drove by...

By the time 2042 rolls around I'll be 92 years old. I should be so lucky that another 12 years would make a difference at that point! DH and I love the rustic feel of VWL and the laid-back atmosphere of OKW, which is why we purchased our points, both on resale, at those places specifically.

Ah, the ever popular WDW bus driver source!!!

With all due respect to those hard working folks, some of their...colorful anecdotes leave a lot to be desired. Did he mention the Villains theme park or the monorail expansion through the Dolphin and Swan while he was at it? :rotfl2:

Seriously, based on the info you've added, it sounds like he was referring to the Eagle Pines resort, another DVC property that came very close to reality. No, SSR was not moved from another location to its current site at the last minute. The Eagle Pines resort (not final name) was actually announced in September 2001--just a few weeks after the 9/11 disaster. When Disney started to realize how bad the tourism situation really was, they quietly cancelled EP and moved foward with Saratoga Springs.

You can see a copy of the EP press release (with artist renderings) here:

Much different design than SSR.

Some think EP could still happen someday. Guess we'll all find out together.

Really, SSR has so much more to be built. We cannot judge until it is done.

When is all construction supposed to be completed?

I bought a resale at VWL at a very good price. It did, in the end, come out cheaper than SSR. I wasn't financing, so that was not an issue either.

I thought about the extra 12 years, but as it stands now, I'll be in my mid 80's when my lease ends. I'm not sure that having DVC until I'm 108 means much to me.

Either way, I'll probably be dead by the time either would expire. I wasn't too concerned about anyone inheriting it either.

There was always the consideration of resale, but I never looked at it as an investment, just a hedge.

When all was said and done, I decided that I wanted the 11 month advantage at VWL.

Not sure that at the end of the day there is a rhyme or reason really. Buying DVC is afterall a bit more of an emotional purchase. So, in affairs of the heart, is there really ever any logic.
