Why no online booking?

I have said this on the occasion when these threads pop up about online booking systems, and I will say it again....we put men on the moon with computers that are half a century old, so THIS CAN BE DONE! I have always felt like Disney likes to be able to have more control over things than your average hotel chain. It took them a long time to do online booking just for the regular Disney hotels. I find that irritating.

If cost is an issue, I feel like Disney would just come out and say that. At least it's something we can all comprehend.

While I agree it can be done, as mentioned above there are other timeshares that do it, I'm not so sure it is about control or money. The big difference between putting a man on the moon and this is that they TRAINED the men going to the moon. Not that all DVC owners are idiots, but I would liken it to putting a guy off the street in a rocket headed to the moon ... instead of a trained astronaut! DVC rules are complicated and to just throw people into the ability to really screw up their memberships is a problem that DVC managers just may not want to have to keep fixing.

I wish more owners understood what they owned, but you cannot require it. And until owners are more educated, I just see it as something DVD does not want to risk. Like so many things, those of us who can handle it have to be coddled because so many others cannot handle the responsibility. AND even if owners are smart enough, I do not trust Disney to put together a system that works reliably. So they do not trust us, and I do not trust them!

I'm new here and wonder why reservations cannot be made online. It seems so much easier for us to see what is available, have 24 hour access, and would save so many payroll dollars.
Has it ever been done or considered? If so, why not?

It hasn't been a priority, is the simplest answer. And has been mentioned already, Disney/DVC keeps the bar set pretty low on their technical abilities anyway.

First, I would love to see real-time inventory. Online booking is second, its nice but not really necessary.

I'd love to see online ressies, but I'll go with the nays. Disney has trouble with ALL of their computer systems, not just web sites, and none of them interacts flawlessly. I could see a real mess if DVC rushes to provide online reservations because of demand. (I've never understood why Disney has the IT problems it has in general.)
