Why No Dinning Plan for AP Holders

Does anybody know why Disney will not let AP holders book the DDP while staying on site.

Maybe it's me - but if we are paying for tickets and a room why not?

I asked this same question 2 weeks ago when I made my AP discount reservations for April. I was told by the CM that we were entitled to only 1 discount: our AP rate. If I wanted to pay full rate and buy a 1 day base ticket I could get the DDP. It wasn't worth the difference in room cost at the WL to go rack rate so I could get the DDP, so we are justing using the passholder rate and paying OOP for food.

You can. You just can't stack discounts, so you have to choose one - AP or DP. Even without a reduced room rate, the AP is itself a discounted park ticket. If they'd let me get the DP when I went room-only with an AP, I would, but I don't know if they'll ever feel the need to do that. The DP is a marketing tool, after all, and AP room rates already get many APers back.......

Check into the DDE card, though. Depending on your eating habits, that might be even better than teh DP.

I understand that if I was getting an AP discount on the room, I shouldn't get the DP much the same as other discounts and codes. But if I am paying rack rate for the room why shouldn't I be able to add DDP.

I have a DDE card and I think that we make enough savings on this - I was just courious as to why Disney don't think their AP holders paying rack should be able to purchase DDP

You can, but everyone in your party has to buy at least a 1 day base ticket to do so. Then you can use that ticket towards your next AP ticket if you don't actually use it.

I can get DDP for my first day at WL if I buy a 1 day base ticket because my first day (Apr. 14) is the last day of premium season so I am paying rack rate, but I can't get it on the next 3 days when I am using the AP rate. Clear as mud?

With your ap you have a discount. Your ticket costs less then people going for two trips. DDP is for people buying tickets for one trip. It is a discount in itself and would be stacking discounts if you were able to get the ddp and that discount on you tickets (as I said your ap is basically a discounted ticket). So if you want to buy tickets with this trip you can get ddp. You can also use those one day tickets to renew your ap.

If you are not using your AP for a room discount then Yes you can book the DDP.

You simply have to meet the requirements of the package which are, rack rate room, and at least a one day MYW ticket.

It doesn't make sense to me because last year they gave it free to everyone that stayed on site in the summer. Did they exclude those with AP's then?

They did if those AP holders did not get at least a 1 day MYW ticket.

If you're paying rack get the one day ticket, it doesn't expire if it's not used. Then apply it to the renewal of your AP.

I guess the answer to my question is that if I pay rack for my room but use my AP for admissions for the park then Disney feel I would be stacking discounts by paying for the dinning plan.

I know I can purchase 1 day tickets but would these not expiry after 14 days if I didn't pay for the no expiry option?

My DH's DS doesn't have an AP but will be travelling with us on our June & Dec trip if I was to purchase the DDP by getting 1 days tickets could I upgrade his 1 day ticket to more days and leave ours at 1 day tickets?

The 14 days doesn't start until you put them through a fingerscan, otherwise they're good forever. As an AP holder I have received free dining the last two Sept by paying rack rate for the room and then buying a one day MYW ticket for everyone in the room. You can then use the one day ticket later to renew your AP when it's due (or upgrade it to whatever park ticket you need for that trip). Quite a few AP holders have done this the last two years during the free dining period. In fact I'm doing it again for next Sept. I was able to book free dining already for Sept 29th-Oct 7 (via the Bounce Back program last Dec). I told the CM I already had an AP and he said then all you'll need is a one day ticket for everyone then (plus I had to pay rack rate of course).

As far DS ticket yes you can upgrade his to whatever he needs at either guest services in your resort, at DTD, or at any park guest services and then save your one day tickets for another visit. We've done this. If he wants to upgrade to an AP he'll have to go to guest services at DTD or a park though as resort guest services can't do an AP.

I'm actually a little shocked that we DVC members can book the Dining Plan. I the fact that we can makes me wonder why AP holder cannot, but perhaps DVC is paying a bit for the privilege of being able to offer the Dining Plan?

No, they don't expire. We are AP holders and have done the free ddp in 05 and 06. We pay rack rate for the room and buy one day tickets. We have used the one day ticket towards our renewal with no problem. I renewed in October and they applied the $71 ticket to the cost and hubby renews this May. So yes AP holders can book the ddp by paying rack rate like others and buying the required tickets. Buying the ticket is not a big deal as I see it as a down payment towards my next AP.
