Why my most recent experience at California Grill will probably be my last.

wearing a ball cap is plain rude....and although your "quote" on Emeril's restaurant....I mean do you really think places need to spell out for you not to wear a hat inside the restaurants?

what logo was on your t-shirt?

sorry for your bad experience, it'll just leave more room for those who want to go!

Reminding everyone that this is NOT a debate board.....and certainly not a board for discussions of religous practices or beliefs.

Like the OP, I wish they would enforce their stated business casaul dress code. Then we wouldn't have to be having this snarky thread at all.

I have no specific knowledge of why they chose to focus on my colleague's hat. I never stated that it was religious persecution. I do find it interesting though that it was the only part of their dress code that they chose to enforce even with my party!

presumably it was because they thought it would be easy to remove a hat and rather more of a strange demand to ask you to remove your t-shirt! In my mind the whole incident can be summed up with one fault - lack of communication. If the staff had communicated to each other about the hat there wouldn't really have been a problem.

You have every right to feel that way. California Grill's policy (as stated by its General Manager) does not share your view. I made it a point to include each of Emeril's restaurant's phone number so that you can call to verify their policy (you can start with Michael Olsen, General Manager of Delmonico Steakhouse, as he is the GM I spoke to most recently.

Front is an outline of an Apple iPod, back says "Live on Stage 5.2.03" in large letters.

Majortom when you quoted one of my lines I wanted to make clear that I thought that the restaurant was being unacceptable not you. I was thinking that if they got your order wrong twice that was so wrong of THEM not you. That you needed to tell them twice what you ordered just to get it right was out of line for the RESTAURANT not you. (just to clear that up with you...I don't want you to think I was commenting on your behaviour- nothing wrong with that) I am really just interested in this because it is something I have never come across and was so interested (and ashamed of my ignorance that I called a strict Kosher Jewish friend of mine and they too have not seen what you are describing although she mentioned it may be regional interpretation. Now she did point out perhaps someone under the age of 13 may be doing that..But again this is all coming from a place of interest for me.)
ETA that I hope I did not offend you in any way I am really just trying to educate myself and I guess this is not the place to do that so to the moderators I apologize also.

majortom, I am sorry about your bad experience at CG.........and even more sorry about your treatment here on the boards! Thanks for sharing your experience. I find it is very helpful to read all types of reviews about Disney restaurants - not just the positive ones.

Hope you and your friend have lots of great dining experiences in the future!

This is horrible! I hope that you get some satisfaction from upper management at Disney; your review is absolutely appalling! While I have had mediocre service at WDW, I have NEVER experienced anything like you describe. As a former restaurant manager and a very part-time server, service can make or break a restaurant. I feel for you, I really do. You should have gotten AT LEAST an apology, because believe you me, the managers of the California Grille will have a lot of explaining to do.

Policies don't usually list manners.

Maybe a little off-topic, but I wonder what is meant with "smart" casual?

I thank the OP for posting their opinion on their recent visit to California Grill and their treatment during their visit. At this time, this thread has run its course and is turning into more of a debate rather than a discussion about the restaurant, its food and service. I am locking this thread.
