Why my family might take a break from character dining at Disney

Very grateful for many things and grateful I can take my kids to Disney. Just saying we adjusted our plans this year to no include as many of the buffets both character and non character because $40+ for my 10 year old isn't worth it when he eats a few items off the kids portion. Very grateful Disney does not charge for full price in the room on Disney cruises for kids too like other cruise line carriers.

We stopped doing character meals when the oldest had to pay an adult price!

I agree with your post wholeheartedly. The real issue is the buffet. For people with younger kids, this is a nightmare. We had the same issue at Biergarten - it's hard to sit and enjoy the band when you are crossing a restaurant every 5 minutes to either help someone get food or finally get food for yourself. While I think Crystal Palace has a little more room, when we did the character breakfast at Hollywood and Vine, that was a bit of a mess. Very cramped. I'd love to see more 'family style' dining a la Akershus and Ohana.

Every time I turn around I hear something else negative about our Disney plans, lol. I do appreciate the heads up. We have reservations at Chef Mickey's and Akershus for our trip. My kids love Mickey and the gang, especially my 5 year old. I hope it's not a disappointment!

I feel like every family has their own places they love and what may be a great experience for one family is not for another. Just take it all with a grain of salt! Your kids will love it because it is memories made with you!

We enjoyed Akershus and Tusker House. CRT and Hollywood & Vine were awful unfortunately. CRT was SO loud, and SO rushed, the kids didn't get to choose their food for breakfast and they hated everything on their plate...dh got food poisoning...it was just overall an awful experience considering how much you pay for a meal there. The only positive was getting into Magic Kingdom early and seeing the castle without the crowds...though we happen to go on an extremely foggy day and you can barely see the castle in our pictures LOL Hollywood & Vine was just hectic, not as awful as CRT but I definitely wouldn't repeat.
Tusker House will more than likely be repeated on our next trip. I wanted to do one other character meal too but I'm torn between Garden Grill and Chef Mickeys for that one.
