I just got my hallowen tixs in the mail for 10.10.06
WHY do they make them out of the nice hard plastic and my AP;s are the flimsy paper ones that can rip or get wet???? makes no sense to me at all???

Your park tickets are actually made of a Tyvek-like material and are extremely hard to rip or ruin/dissolve.

::yes::
CMs in Guest Relations have actually told us that they have to replace a lot more of the hard plastic cards. The magnetic strips get scratched and damaged more. The hard plastic cards also get cracked a lot (the CMs told us a lot get sat on).

I can't count how many times my AP ticket wouldn't work in the turnstiles. All it needs is a little bend in the paper and then the magnetic strip won't make contact, and your ticket can't be read. I have to replace my AP twice over the last four years for this reason. This year for my room, I am thinking of bringing heavy concrete blocks to lie on top of my AP ticket, to flatten the darn thing so it won't bend anymore!!! :teeth:

Basically I am sick of the paper AP. Yes, it won't tear, but it will bend!! I rather have a plastic one anyday that is rigid. I try to be careful but my AP seems to quit working after a few times! :(

This was our first year with PAPs and having come back from our second trip (and looking forward to our third) I have to say they have caused many park entry problems. In fact, I supect that one of ours never really works - CMs just override it NOT working.

We got our tickets today too! This will be the first time to MNSSHP and we are so looking forward to it. I was surprised to see the nice tickets...they will definitely work well in my post-trip scrapbook! :thumbsup2

That's funny because we have had APs for many years and have had very little problems with the Tyvek ones.

Wow, Huggsforeeyore, we've had AP's for many years and never had to have them replaced for any reason. But, there is no problem getting a new one printed out for you at any park guest relations window.

Ditto.

I was surprise when we got our Disney World annual passes because we have annual passes for Disneyland and they are hard plastic with our pictures on them. :confused3
I don't know why, but WDW stopped putting pictures on the APs a long time ago.

I don't know why mine keeps quiting - maybe from overuse??? :teeth: I do park-hop constantly looking for characters! I am careful about keeping it in my backpack protected in it's cover, so not like it's in my pocket or anything. It just that my AP always gets a small bend in it, and then it's hard to flatten it straight again. I think it failed three times on my last trip. I am fearful I will have to replace it soon, since I have two more trips until it expires. Oh well!

Wow, that is strange. We use ours often too - going into the parks at least 25 days in a year (and usually 2 parks per day). We keep ours in the sleeve and with the rest of our necessary stuff (ID, Room key, etc) when we go.

*sigh* how many of these threads have I seen lately?

It's not paper, and its tougher than the plastic cards. Our 2 week tickets are made of paper. We are stupendously happy about that. Ask any CM if you don't believe me!

I feel the opposite, having used an AP for 4-5 years and (knock wood) never having problems. On the other hand my dd's had MYW hoppers from the Disney Store that were the plastic. They had trouble from day one - not reading though the turnstyles and then since the CM had to override it they coudn't get FP's. We traded them in at GR for the tyvek passes and never had another issue. It seemed to me that the plastic was to rigid and jammed in the machines ?

eta - if you do have to replace it don't worry. I lost mine once and my dd lost hers once and it took about 5 minutes to replace.

Have you had a problem with it ripping or getting ruined when wet?

Relax, flort, it's a Disney information BB. I am sure you will see this, as well as many questions, asked many times.

Over the past 7 years, I have had to replace an ill-functioning AP pass twice (used typically 18 or so days per year), took a few minutes each time, mostly consumed by walking over to the Guest Service window.

I have never had to replace an AP ever and I spend weeks in Disney. I have been every month this year alone with the same AP and have had not one issue.

I wondered the same thing! We are always going through AP's. It's really annoying to wait in a line to get into the park and then have to leave and go get a new AP because they are SO worn!
