My plate bows after many, many cuts (when the plate is covered in cuts). I think if your plate is bowing after one cut then you should call the company and ask their advice. And you shouldn't have to push that much, I remember when I first got mine it felt weird the first few times, tight, and made that crackling noise -- but no bowing and no wall support.
Good Luck -- call the company and get a new machine and then you can start having fun!!!!
I took the machine back to Michaels and exchanged it for a new one. OMG the difference! Mine was seriously messed up if this is the way it is meant to work! It took the stamp die through SO easily. The giant new die I did have to crank hard but I didn't really have to push at all. Thanks for the advice - my original machine was totally spazzed out!
