Why is this guy allowed to carry a gun?

CLEARLAKE, Calif. -- Forget cats and their nine lives.

A dog named Dosha is showing she's a survivor as well.

In the course of one day last week, Dosha survived being hit by a car, being shot in the head and being stuck in a freezer for two hours.


It all started when a car hit her. A Clearlake police officer said no one at the scene could tell him who Dosha's owner was so he shot her in the head to save her the pain of the injuries.

The dog was presumed dead and taken to Animal Control, where she was put in a freezer. About two hours later, a facility official went to the freezer and found Dosha alive -- but cold.

Animal rights groups have begun raising money to pay for her care.

Couldn't he have taken the dog to the vet INSTEAD of shooting it??? What am I missing here???

On the "Today" show this morning, the owner said the cop told her that "they don't have time to do stuff like that".

He had time to shoot it and take it to animal control though?

So sad that poor puppy and the poor owner. How can they not have time to take the animal to a control center or a vet. Geesh killing it is just easier!!!

How awful that this poor doggie had to go through being shot on top of being hit by the car.

Unfortunately, it reminds me of the situation here in Tenn. not long ago, where the police mistakenly stopped a family traveling on the interstate and ended up shooting their family pet. The whole town rather unjustly got a black eye because of the poor judgement of one guy.

You're right, Tony. Someone needs to re-think whether this guy can be trusted with a gun!
