why would a thread that just opened be closed already when its a topic thats has 7 pages of responses in less than 2 days?

Usually a thread that is closed has had the death beaten out of it, and some answers given may have offended others. I haven't read the entire thing, so other than those generic reasons, I don't know.

Usually a moderator will lock a thread when it gets
too argumentative, or personal insults are being
tossed around, or if the topic has run it's course.

I am always curious about why threads are locked, even threads I could care less about and haven't read (like the line jumping one), so when I see a locked thread, I go to the last post. It will of course be the Mod's, and it usually gives a brief explanation.

I for one, am glad it finally got shut down. Nothing new was being added, well, except for my 'thoughts'. Finally my thread killing abilities did something useful!!
