Just curious, but I started trying to find points today for a Jan 07 stay at VWL and nothing seems to be available. I've called Disney myself and checked into availability for the whole month of January and nothing shows up.

My family and I rented 3 1 BDR villas in May 06' with little problem. I was under the impression January was a pretty low key time of year. So is there something I should know or is the whole DVC population descending upon Orlando in Jan?

Yes, we were trying for the second week too and there was only availability at SSR.

SSR is the only place that was available for my stay as well. They had some availability at other resorts but not for the full 2 weeks I wanted to book.. and I hate changing hotels in the middle of my stay :thumbsup2

I have met several people(older-3) that spend months at DVC's in the winter. Welcome to the Disboards too!!

I had to wait list the first week of January at WL just a few weeks past the 7 month mark. It took about 6 weeks to come through. Since January is the lowest point season, and WL is lovely in the winter, I would be shocked if there were open rooms 2-3 months out.

I know I have a 2BR for a week in January as well :cheer2: I got it right at 7 months. I do know BCV had a 2BR available as of last week.

If you're going during the Marathon week or the Martin Luther King holiday, that might be it.

It was gone by this Wednesday. :sad2: We do have another Jan week booked but the second one would work out better for our family. Come on waitlist!

What is the wait list and how can I get on it?
The wait list is just what it sounds like. You tell MS what you want and they put you on the list of people waiting for accommodations for that resort, villa type and dates. Just contact MS and they will put you on the waitlist.

I was there last Jan. and it was crowded. I noticed a large number of South American tour groups there. It must be their traditional vacation time like the summer is for us. All of Orlando seemed to be these group tours.

oh, and by the way, the pools are the place to be during this time
oooh-la-la and hubba hubba!

It sounds like you are a renter. If so, there is no wait list for you. Sorry.

VWL is the smallest DVC resort, so it fills up pretty quickly. You're only three months out (or less) from a Jan 07 stay. You waited too long.

Ah, I missed that part. DoctorP is absolutely correct...I thought you were a new member. Sorry.

Yes I am a renter, so I guess the waitlist is out for me.

How much lead time do you guys reccomend to book at VWL?

I was, and still am, a renter (rentee?); I just became an owner a few weeks ago. When I rented I put a 'want to rent points' post in a month before the 11 month window. I think the lead time should be as soon as you know that you are going. In other words, as early as you possibly can.

Low times at the parks does not mean low occupany at DVC.

Points are often less at those times and DVC members are more flexible in their travel time than most and can travel during the traditional off seasons.

Many specificially go during the so called off times because of lower crowds, special events, and lower points.

Many DVCers come from the colder states and January in Floridia is very popular.
