That's exactly what I was going to point out. No free Internet in Hilton's, but Hampton provides it. I've also had to pay for it at Fairmont and Four Seasons.

Frankly I'd rather have the cost passed on to those that want or use it than everyone.

Blue & Gold, your logic is flawed. The DVD players were not in the rooms, they simply replaced the older technology VCR players. The master dicuments describe a VCR player in the room, the DVD is a suitable alternative. No where in the master documents is high speed Internet access offered. To add it now would incur a cost which must be passed on to all members, and my guess is that most members do not want to bear that cost. If it were a situation where originally high speed access via a LAN connection was a selling point, and that was eventually replaced with wireless, I would have no problem with it. But I don't like the idea of DVC being able to unilaterally add anything that has an additional cost to members at a whim, and my guess is that they legally can't do so without a majority vote.

There is a fee because people are willing to pay for it. Disney could give it for free in their rooms, sure. But why do that if you can take in $100,000/year to help offset costs.

It's the law of supply and demand. Like another poster stated, Disney doesn't have to offer it for free to draw occupancy.
 
I use the internet every trip because I have to stay intouch with things back home but do think the cost is as overpriced as alot of their rack rates are but that is Disney. I have no problem paying a fee but when I stay for 11 days, I have to pay almost double what I pay for my cable internet service for a month.

Yes!!!!! I think I should pay and have no problem with paying and those who don't use the internet during their trips shouldn't have to pay but the cost of these services are way over priced.
 
When we go to Disney Land, a couple of the Good Neighbor hotels have free interenet..and I'm happy about that.
At Disney World in their resorts, we hook up to dial up, puy the .75 once a day for the call out...sometimes we get 2 or three days out the same dial up!
 

Personally I find Disney's plan much better then the Marriott, Hilton, Four Seasons etc.

It is 24 hours, not until check out the next day. If at the Hilton tonight I get on the internet I have paid until checkout the next day. So I had access from 9 pm to 11 am or so. At Disney I would have access until 9 PM.


I often log on one afternoon at Disney to check email and then again the next morning. I then take 24 hours off of the internet....

Works for me.

To be honest, I travel a lot and lots of those "Free" connections are worth exactly what you pay for them. There is no service and the connections are getting worse. Maintenance does not appear to be a big issue. I was at a Fairfield where the front desk admitted it only worked in about half the rooms. Management didn't want to pay the techs to come back and fix things....

I would rather pay for the service and get "service"....
 
I agree with Carol A. When I am paying $9.95 a day that system better work. I can't tell you how many times I had to call their tech support when it was free. The attitude is completely different when you are paying vs getting it for free.
 
The Universal Resorts charge also & they are all deluxe resorts. If you stay concierge level (club as they call it) you can connect in the club lounge free of charge, but not in your room. At least that was how it was when I stayed club level.
 
Do all the resorts offer high speed access now? Wireless?
