Why is the Tamagotchi V 5 so expensive?

My DD11 has Tamagotchi V 5 on her Christmas list. The older ones used to be cheap, but this version is $38.99!!! Has anyone found this cheaper anywhere, or is this as good as it gets at Amazon.com? Thanks!
