Sorry if this has been asked before (I did use the search function), but why is the pts/nt more at SSR than other resorts? While I'm at it, why is AKL less pts/nt?

SSR, OKW, and AKL are not "Park Resorts". When staying at SSR, OKW, and AKL, you are trapped into taking the buses or driving to all of the parks which takes a little of the magic out of your visit. On the other hand, WLV, BWV and BCV are considered the more desirable resorts due to location and transportation convenience. Location is the main reason everyone is predicting the Contemporary Vacation Villas(BLT) will sell out quickly. You can either walk or take a quick boat ride to the parks from these resorts. In my opinion, the buses are nice to avoid driving but can also be a headache due to long wait times and huge crowds onboard.

thanks you, but that did not answer my question. Why is SSR more points per night than the other DVC?

SSR is not more points per night than BCV, WLV, and BWV. SSR is typically a point or more less a night than these resorts. OKW is the least amount of points per night. SSR is more points than OKW because it's located next to Downtown Disney and has a very nice gym and spa facility. The highest points per night are at BCV, BWV, and WLV. The lowest are at OKW and SSR points are in the middle.

I don't think anyone really knows the answer as to why there are differences in points required for different resorts, especially AKV, given the Savannah views. I can see OKW being lower as it was the first DVC, and Disney's first experience with point charts and timeshares, but as the DVC brand became more established, and Disney had more history to draw from, I have no idea why SSR would be more points per night than AKV.

I'm def not an experienced DVCer so someone else may help you more but...

Are you compairing AKV value room points with the SSR points?

Not sure what the difference is but I always use the points for the standard room at AKV as opposed to the value room.

If you use the search for the value room you should find what it is about!

Hope this helps

I agree, I don't understand why SSR's pts are so much higher than OKW. The resorts seem very comparable to me. Both are huge, both are very close to DTD, both are on a golf course, both have bus transportation and "nothing special" (ie AKV has animals) about them. That said if given the choice between OKW and SSR I have to admit I think I'd chose OKW every time to save on the pts. SSR seems to offer no advantages to me.

I would choose SSR over OKW because of the gym. I am an athlete who trains during my WDW vacations. The facilities at SSR are top notch but the weight room at OKW is only equivalent to a Holiday Inn facility.

I wondered the same thing. We were going to book a studio at SSR for our Dec 16-23 trip and it was 97 points. The same stay in a BWV studio was 87 pts.

That would be so only if you can get the standard view at BWV.

SSR is higher than OKW but actually lower than AKV for most accomodations -- value rooms at AKV will ultimately be less than 5% of all rooms; 80% will be savanna view cost rooms. As to Savanna view cost rooms AKV is actually higher than BWV preferred, BCV and VWL parts of the year.

The main reason that OKW has the lowest point cost is that it was the first one built, opened in early 90s at a cost of construction that existed then, came about at a time when the timeshare industry as a whole was still considered a pack of thieves, and Disney did not know how much it could stretch the cost per night and still generate sales.

With BWV (1996) the second WDW resort, Disney knew better. It realized it could have higher point cost and smaller rooms and still generate sales and distinguish the difference from OKW by touting that BWV was right next to the parks. It had one set back in early sales because it received huge complaints that the parking lot view rooms should not cost the same per night as others. The result -- it rewrote all the offering documents to create a lower cost standard view category at BWV which had point per night costs closer to OKW (but still smaller rooms). BWV preferred actually became the model for future resorts both as to point cost and room size -- VWL and BCV have room sizes comparable to BWV and same point cost per night as BWV preferred.

When SSR came along, the issue was not whether it should be close to OKW in room size and point cost per night. Instead, BWV preferred was still the model -- SSR room sizes are comparable to BWV preferred. However, it could not have the same point cost per night because SSR had no park location advantage like BWV, BCV, and VWL have. Thus, the issue was simply how much lower in point cost per night than BWV preferred could it get away with.

AKV's point structure is actually comparable to BWV preferred when you consider that most rooms are savanna point cost or higher (AKV savanna view is actually a little higher than BWV preferred for some parts of the year). Though not close to a park, they had the "animal" advantage to sell and the plan to build larger than BWV preferred rooms in the new Kidani building, thus making up for the lack of park proximity issue.

When BLV comes about, you can bet the point cost will be higher than BWV preferred (the model). Disney will be able to justify the higher per night point cost because it is a MK monorail resort which will generate its own demand
