Why is the Poly so popular?

"Nekkid" Hula Dancers!

Well maybe not in your room...

I've always wanted to stay at the Poly since I was a child. In those days you had to book 6 months to a year out, as it was always at full capacity. So now we overcompensate and stay there about once a year. We're trying some new resorts the next round, but the Poly will always be a favorite for sentimental reasons.

We walked down to the beach, watched the fireworks, saw the EWP, and that is the moment I knew I had to stay there. See it's not the lobby, or the restaurants, it's the feeling you get walking around there at night... it was just like being back in Hawaii (I kid you not!) :sunny: It has some kind of magic atmosphere, and you'll never know unless you try it. :wave2:

I know that feeling...

How long do you have to wait to get on the monorail first thing when the parks open at these resort hotels? I would think they have huge lines?

It's not too bad. Depending on which park you're going to you may not need the monorail at all. To go to MK you can either monorail or take the boat (we always take the boat). To get to Epcot you can either take the monorail, or just walk over to the TTC and catch the Epcot monorail. (therefore bypassing the tour around all the MK resorts) To go to MGM or AK you're going to take a bus.

So as you can see you'll really only need the monorail for MK (if you don't like the boat) or to get to the GF or CR. :)

The resort monorail starts running at 7:00 am and we've never found the lines long for the MK monorail (we usually head over around 8:45). The same is true at the TTC for the Epcot monorail. It is really much faster to just walk over there and is one of the advantages of the Polynesian.

Someone talked about "tacky brown and orange". This really puzzles me because I can't picture any orange and brown other than the very dark brown wood of the longhouses and the little bit of orange (and other colors) that highlight the corners of the buiding. And tacky the Polynesian is not. Wood is usually brown ;) and the color and structure of the longhouses is to invoke Polynesia.

Denman007, I love your photographs!! My family will be staying at the Poly for the first time this June. My husband and I have wanted to stay there for years. The theme and atmosphere look wonderful.
