Why Is Tangled So Popular?!

My girls LOVE Tangled and are both teenagers. :rotfl2: They even have sing-offs to the sound track. :thumbsup2

The movie makes it clear how much princess movies have improved. The characters, the classic-yet-new story (everyone has heard of Rapunzel), the songs; these make it a movie everyone can enjoy. I just watched sleeping beauty for the first time (thought we should, before going to see the castle). It was not popular in my house. Too much talking! There is a scene where the two dads are talking for 10 minutes, it seemed. And the heroine has no personality whatsoever, unless being pretty counts as a personality trait.

I like the newer princesses. For my money Little Mermaid still has the best, catchiest songs, though. Followed closely by Lion King and Beauty/Beast.

I actually thought it was not on par quality-wise with other Disney or Pixar movies. It seemed like a rushed job to me. A little boring. I do want to watch it again though in case I have a change of heart. I wanted to love it so badly.

Watch it again. The stakes were too high for you, since you wanted to love it so much. I went into it thinking it would be stupid, and was VERY surprised. So see it again!

It's funny, reading all of this Rapunzel's the hero stuff...they are BOTH heroes. She shows him a frying pan, he shows her the outside world. She saves him from things, he saves her from things. It's very equal, very balanced.

Another reason why it's different from a "princess" movie is that they actually SHOW the guy in it. I bet you could make a really interesting, not-so "and then he swooped in and rescued her and that's it" story out of things like Cinderella, if only they would SHOW the men and allow them to really interact.

To quote a joke my teenage children made up:

Knock Knock.
Who's there?
Sexy Flynn Ryder.
Sexy Flynn Ryder Who?

SEXY FLYNN RYDER IN YOUR DREAMS FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl2::rotfl2::lmao::lmao::lmao:

We love the movie!! Even my boys watch it over and over again.

The Princess and the Frog just scared my kids with the ghosts or shadows or whatever. I do have to mention that Mulan also was the heroine of the movie and was independent and didn't depend on a guy but I don't think that movie is very popular, though one of my favorites.

Maximus is hilarious.

 My child will enjoy this....she makes up stuff like this all the time.

We love Tangled! My mother (65) just said this morning that she needed to watch it again. Honestly, there isn't anything I don't like about it. Rapunzel is a great heroine, Maximus and Pascal are funny, the songs are enjoyable, the town scene and the lantern scene are beautiful. We all adore Zachary Levi, so we couldn't wait to see/hear him as a Disney hero and he did not disappoint!! He is wonderful as Flynn! I think the OP should give it another try!

Pascal. The Music. The Lanterns. The Hair.

I LOVE it. My kids will watch it with me :rotfl: I got it for Christmas. And Santa brought EACH kid their own Pascal (can't have too many, as far as I'm concerned).

I thought it had the best of all the Princess movie components combined. Ariel's spunk and music. Belle's animation/library/smarts. Jasmine's carpet ride.

I think it was so very well done.

Love it.

I do like the movie! I wasn't hating, I was just curious to why it was SO POPULAR! It's the only Disney Princess movie I like, besides Mulan.:goodvibes
I guess I'm not into 'Rescue me!' movies...

Tangled is my second favorite Disney movie - first is Little Mermaid. Pascal and Maximus are hillarious, Rapunzel is awesome with a skillet, and Flynn is...:lovestruc.

I don't really understand all the fuss over it either. I really enjoy the movie, but it's not a favorite. I like the more classic princesses so much better. I kind of wish Tangled wasn't so digital and modern looking, but I guess that's what sells nowadays. :confused3 I do think it's a really cute movie though, and I enjoy the music from it a lot.

I'm sorry..should've read your post closer. :) We love Mulan, too!! One of our faves. Actually, there are only a few Disney movies we never really got into: The Princess and the Frog, Hercules, and Hunchback of Notre Dame. Oh, and my girls don't really love Snow White (the movie). We love her in Once Upon A Time, though!! :thumbsup2

I posted earlier about how I didn't care for Tangled at all but that I should give it another shot. Today I watched it again and I did enjoy it much more. I think what I originally didn't like was how modern it was, it wasn't really like a classic Disney movie, including the animation. But, I know that is what kids want nowadays. I'm glad I gave it another chance. It's still not my favorite, but it was pretty good. :)

... and the best evil character EVER! I LOVE the Mother Knows Best Song...

Adults also like the snarky humor of Flynn ("here's your pan, here's your frog"), and the horse is fabulous.

Very funny, very enjoyable, fabulous music, and beautifully rendered.

Re: the popularity of the meet&greet, is it the only interactive one involving a princess at the moment??? That may account for its popularity.

The M&G isn't really any more interactive than any other M&G in the parks.

Part of the problem is that she is out only intermittently (Town Square Princess M&G is continuous). Additionally, this is the only place you can meet her. Snow White can be met in MK and Epcot, as can Aurora. Most of the other princesses can also be met at CRT, Akershus and 1900 Park Fare.

Exactly this. I don't think she is any more popular in the park, she's just LESS available, so you have a supply & demand issue.

I'm malicious mean and scary my snare could curdle dairy and violence wise my hands are not the cleanest but despite my evil look and my temper and my hook i've alway yearned to be a concert pianoist. Love that movie. Its my second favorite only to beauty and the beast.
