Why is Shipping on Amazon so expensive?

I've been looking for a few books....the Velvet Series by Jude Deveraux and found all 4 on amazon but shipping is almost $14 dollars. The books are only $12....thats ridiculous!

Am I missing something?

Do any of you buy used books online? I have looked and can't find all 4 books at the same shop anywhere.

Everything I buy on Amazon qualifies for the free shipping. If you can find $25 of books, it is free.

That is high for shipping books.

I have never purchased used books online. We have 2 big used bookshops in town and they have pretty good selections.

If you are doing the used Amazon shops, the free shipping wont qualify.

But if you are buying used you are using individuals who set their own shipping prices versus the set up that Amazon has.

Or www.halfpricebooks.com There are some B & M stores around, but none in my area.
