It seems the line waiting to get onto the Norway boat is always longer than the line to get on the Mexico boat. Seem like that to you too? How come?

Yeah, I have noticed that too!! Maybe it's because Norway is just more appealing or because people see the viking ship at the entrance an it draws them in........ :goodvibes

My guess is two reasons. 1) Maelstrom is more popular and 2) the spacing on the Maelstrom boats needs to be greater because of the directional changes, thus reduced throughput.

I personally like Norway better( it is more exciting)!  also norway has fasspass so people think if it has a fasspass than it must be good!! :teeth:

2001 we went on Norways and loved it. We actually missed the one in Mexico as it was in the back and we thought the market was the only thing they were offering. We came home and watched the planning video and were a bit :confused3 as we saw Mexico's boat ride. 2002 we found Mexico but Norway was closed for refurbishment :sad2: Hopefully, this year, we'll see both

I thought Maelstrom was one of the dumbest rides I had ever been on. Anyway, I think people are more curious about what Maelstrom is like because from the outside there's a waterfall where the boat goes by. It makes people wonder what it's all about.

El rio del tiempo is inside and it isn't as obvious that there is a ride.

The write ups are more exciting for Maelsorm than for the Mexico boat ride thats why we were sure to ride it. Having ridden the Mexico one before we skipped it in exchange for Norway. While it was ok, it did not justify the wait. Sounded and looked better than it was. Next time we will do Mexico instead!
November is coming quickly!!!

How bad am I? I always forget about the one in Norway and head straight for the Mexico one. We always start at Canada and work our way around. By the time we get to Mexico I can't wait to sit in the dark cool space with no crowd. Nice way too cool down after a long walk. :mickeybar

This year I have it on my agenda to do Maelstrom. Let's see what happens. :rolleyes2

I always think they must have used films from the 70's for the scenes in Mexico. Mexico is a take it or leave it for me but I never skip Norway. Norway doesn't seem as crowded to me as it used to be when we first started going to WDW 10 years ago.

The only thing that I don't like about Norway is how they trap you inside after you get off the ride to watch the movie. And you have to stand there until the movie ends before you can even exit.

I love that movie, but lots of people (most of them, actually) walk through the theatre and don't sit to watch, IME. If you walk right through, you can just exit, you are not trapped! LOL

I think people don't ride Mexico as much because they don't know it is there. In Norway you can see the ride exists. Also, I think the other parts of Norway draw people in--the bakery, for example, and the outdoor ship playground.

Another reason is that most people in the US have "seen" lots of Mexican stuff, and so might not be so compelled to spend time exploring that building. Norway is more.....intriguing and different....although, we love the Mexico boat. Dd thinks the Norway ride is scary, LOL. I am glad the Mexico boat has no line, because dd makes us ride it numerous times each trip. In a row. LOL I think it is really cool, 70s films and all.

::MickeyMo We always just keep walking through the theater and out the exit. LOL :smooth: I haven't seen the show in years. Rebecca

I think people think Maelstrom is a "thrill ride" along the lines of Splash Mt.If you read anything about it in guidebooks etc. it talks about going over a waterfall and and something about a storm at sea....sounds more exciting than it actually is! Like someone mentioned it has a FP so that makes people think it really is something "thrilling".

I love both the rides, don't get to them every trip but they're both fun in their own way.Rio del Teimpo is a great place to cool off on a hot ,summer day! :sunny:

I hate Maelestrom, but I hate going backwards. On the other hand I love mexico its nice and quiet and relaxing! OH and it's airconditioned!!! We usually go in july/august so thats a huge perk

The cheesy 70's films in El Rio de Tiempo remind me of the cheesy 70's films in the old Eastern Airlines 'If You Had Wings' ride at the Magic Kingdom (I'm showing my age, but this ride used to occupy the building...long ago...that now houses the Buzz Lightyear ride in Tomorrowland).

The boat ride in Norway is just alot more fun, BACK BACK OVER THE FALLS!!!
Who can resist it? :rotfl:

I would guess that the Maelstrom is more popular because it is listed as "Mild but Wild" and it has a fastpass. I also think that El Rio Del Tiempo is so hidden in the back of the marketplace, that if you're not checking your guidemap, you could easily miss the Mexico boat ride.

I love the boat ride in Mexico, much more than the one in Norway. I thought that Maelstrom was over with much too quickly and that you really didn't get to take in as much as on the Mexico ride where there is so much to see. It's been over a year so maybe when I go next week (god I LOVE saying that) i'll have to check them out more closely and as of right now my favorite has to be Mexico.

I love Rio De Tiempo - It's a must for me. Maelstrom is skippable since the lines are always so long. I never thought it worth that long a wait. However, I always do some perfume shopping in Norway.......
