Lately I have noticed that the time in the lower right corner of my screen is way behind. What causes this? How can I fix this? I go into Adjust Time/Date and do it, but it still keeps falling behind. Did a virus scan and 2 spyware scans and all came back clean!!

I "think" there is a CMOS battery that needs replacing. "If" that is the case you must do it ASAP before you lose all your setup info. This used to be the case; I am not sure if it still is.

I don't know. My old computer kept losing time, too. My new computer automatically checks with Microsoft and updates the time periodcally. Try clicking on your clock, then go into the internet time setting, and see if you can set it for automatic synchronization with a server.

Sounds like your motherboard battery is on its last legs. It's easy to replace, but if you are not comfortable with the idea of opening up your PC you're better off getting a professional to sort it out. It should take them about ten minutes.

Hope that helps,

Charlotte

Dud...do I feel like a nerd! I just went into the Internet Time to synch it. It kept coming up 4 hours behind......it was listed as Pacific time zone. I am in Eastern so it is now set correctly. Thanks!!!

Glad to hear it was something simple and that you got it sorted! :)

Yes, but the earlier warnings about the motherboard are still very important. Indeed, the web service to keep the time accurate may hide the insidious problem, and you can lose your settings if that battery goes.
