Why is "Love, Actually" a Christmas movie?

Again that isn't the plot. It's a side bar. He could have just as easily been trying to win his wife back and spend easter with her and it wouldn't make any difference to the plot.
And the boy on Home Alone could have been left alone for 4th of July weekend.
Jack Skellington could have easily fallen in love with Easter town and taken over Easter.
Christmas with the Cranks could have been Thanksgiving with the Cranks.

But non of them are...they are Christmas, so is Die Hard

But the cranks have Christmas intertwined in the main plot all throughout the movie. It's all about Christmas.
Die hard does not and is not. Christmas is nothing more than window dressing.
Home alone is in my dubious category. It has some Christmas intertwined in the plot as well as a lesson or moral that has to do with Christmas regarding the old man. So I invented my dubious category for it.

Release dates.

Home alone November 16.
Christmas with the Cranks. November 24.
The nightmare before Christmas October 13. This one was released for Halloween. But that's a whole other thread.
Die hard. July 15.

Which one of these days is vastly different from the rest?

Why does it matter? Watch what you want and call it what you want. lol

I saw Titanic in a theater when it was first released in mid-December 1997. So it definitely qualifies as a Christmas movie.

And no matter what anybody says, It's A Wonderful Life is NOT NOT NOT a Christmas movie. So there.

IMHO, It's a Wonderful Life is THE most Christmas-y of all Christmas movies. it's an allegory for the life of Jesus, no film does a better job of conveying the meaning of the season

IMO, a release date can't eliminate a movie as being described as "A Christmas Movie." If A Christmas Carol was released in July, it wouldn't be designated as a Christmas Movie? Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?

I don't know, I've never seen it. I haven't seen It's A Wonderful Life either. I have seen Die Hard, and that is definitely a Christmas movie.

Die Hard for sure counts as a Christmas movie in our house. Lots of Christmas relevance- they plan the heist for the Christmas party specifically. He is home for Christmas. It "snows" paper at the end.

It's a Wonderful Life is very dubious, IMO. Christmas has a tiny, itty bitty part in the whole 2+ hour film. Really doesn't have anything to do with the whole movie, just shoehorned in at the end. I don't really get why it is considered such a classic Christmas movie by some- I find it long, boring, and preachy.

Love, Actually is mainly a romcom to me, with Christmas being a framing device. I don't really think of it as a Christmas film like say, Nightmare Before Christmas, Elf, or Christmas Carol. But I will watch it any time of the year- I love it.

Home Alone is dubious as a Christmas movie?

That one is definitely a Christmas movie to me! I cry every single time the neighbor's family shows up.

If you ask Disney (ABC Family) Harry Potter & the Sorcerer Stone is a Christmas Movie. It ALWAYS aired during their 25 days of Christmas.

I always considered it ABC Family's Christmas gift to me!

I don't think release dates really matter. You are welcome to your opinion, but at my house it's not Christmas until Gruber dies.

Regarding"Love Actually", the definitive answer is given by Netflix. They have it listed in their Christmas movies category. End of discussion. :-)
