Why is it so hard to join Disneymooners???

I also tried to get in, but because I don't have a coordinator yet, they wouldnl't let me join :sad2: My sis is also getting married at Disney and is a member but they still won't "let me in" until i give them a NAME! Now we've moved the wedding back to 11/07 so i don't figure i'll ever be let in! LOL :rotfl2:
It's a shame they won't let us in until we have a date, coordinator, AND location picked. Part of the reason I wanted to join was to get pros and cons on other brides-to-be so I could make an informed choice. I have my date picked out (April 23!) but am not comfortable meeting with a coordinator just yet. Ah, well. I'm really excited to have found this board!

I know, I tried to join as well, but they wouldn't let me because I didn't have a contract signed.

I am a member of the Disneymooner's board. I am very familiar with the way the moderators run their Disneymooners board so I felt I should try to clear up any confusion
The Disneymooners board and DIS boards can not be compared to one another, simply put. The Disneymooners board is designed for those couples working with Sales Managers and Event Managers at Fairy Tale Weddings. It is a community where couples can share their ideas, thoughts and such for their wedding much like this board. However, the Disneymooners takes things a little farther as many of you are aware.
They are very strict about who can join to ensure that vendors and Disney Fairy Tale Wedding staff are not joining the board and reading the messages. I know when I joined they required me to give the name of the individual who I was working with at Disney so they could verify I was indeed who I said I was. It is not a public board like the DIS where anyone can read your messages. The purposely do this so they can have fair, good and bad reviews of vendors, cast members and so on. Image posting your less then glowing review of a vendor you used on a public board where they can read it? Imagine the fall-out that could happen especially if it is a photo or video vendor where you don’t get the finished product immediately after the wedding? Yes, you should wait until you have the final product before posting a review, but if they vendor was a nightmare on your wedding day wouldn’t you want to warn others?
They also limit who can join because many members post their budgets word for word. It is so helpful to see complete budgets from other couples. I know I didn’t want to post my budget on a public board because, to be quite frank, I don’t know who is going to have access to that information. I posted on another group that I was getting married at Disney and how much I was paying for something and I was flamed because many felt it was crazy to get married at Disney and I was paying too much for things that will be in my wedding. (This totally burned me and I no longer post to public boards hence why I normally lurk here and this is my first post here.) I do post my budget on the Disneymooners because I want to help others planning a Disney wedding and I know it won’t be read and scrutinized by the whole world.
This is a brief summary as to why you have to “jump thru hoops to join” and why when you belong to a public board like the DIS you may think “WTH??” when joining the Disneymooners. Personally, I find it only fair and creates tightness within the group. But I can see how it can annoy applications especially when you have “unlimited” access to other Disney couples here at the DIS.
As for the Disneymooners comment that it is not as active, I disagree. The board has what they call Planning Journals. This is where a good chuck of the action takes place. It may look like there is not much action that day but a Planning Journal can have a dozen replies in it. I know when I sign in at night I have several pages of posts to catch up on. You have to play around to really appreciate the board. If you don’t know how to “work” the board it can seem not as active.
The Disneymooners has been around since the late 90s (?) and from what I know they’ve always ran their board in this manner. Like I’ve pointed out they do/run their board in a different manner then the moderators here at the DIS do for good reasons. Why should they open up their board to everyone when the DIS already does that? Why create a duplicate DIS Wedding board?
The DIS fits with some people and serves one purpose and the Disneymooners fits with others and serves a different purpose- it’s all in what you’re looking for in a discussion board. Some love it here; others love it at the Disneymooners. It’s all in what you “prefer”.
And as for people not being able to join- I know some members were sent replies to their applications but the replies go into their spam folders or are not delivered to the applicant correctly. In fact, they have an email address you can email to inquire into it. I think it says on your application if you don’t hear from them within so many days to email them. Did any of you do that didn’t hear back from them? Don’t be shy!! The moderators are super nice. If you want to join don’t just shrug it off- things can happen! Just ask.
Enough rambling- Hopefully this clears up any confusion.
I wish you all the best in your wedding planning. I hope you all find the resources you need to plan your “Once in a Lifetime” events. :)

When I originally applied for Disneymooners, I didn't hear anything back from them so i emailed them requesting a reason. They replied that they had sent me an email and it must have just gotten crossed etc. So they emailed me the information I needed and I was able to log in -- I love both the Disneymooners and the DIS. They are different and both offer so much information!!

As soon as I got accepted I realized why it was so "difficult" to get in. I am so used to the Dis that I was like WTH when I was applying because I didn't understand. It makes perfect sense now though. I have learned a ton of info there already. In the beginning I was thinking that those people were "crazy" lol because you have to follow strict guidelines but as soon as I started posting I learned why and realized everyone was SUPER nice!!! When you get an EM assigned you should definatly try again.

It didnt take me a long time. Within a few days in fact.

Like others said, you just have to answer a number of questions and wait for the email.

Terence

I agree with the previous posters. try again because it is a great board with loads of information you simply can not compare to anything else.Simply put:I LOVE IT.

I've enjoyed reading about people's weddings here and would love to read about them on the Disneymooners board as well. I'm a wedding junkie...I subscribe to bridal magazines and keep up on the latest trends and things. I'm not a wedding planner or anything like that, I just really like weddings.

Unfortunately, without a boyfriend, I think I'm years away from hanging out at the Disneymooners.

Hey, if I sign some sort of "will give you my firstborn if I ever tell anything" contract and swear up and down not to give away info, could I get in? :thumbsup2

it's also a tight nit community! from what i remember i also went to one of the meets! ahhh memories......

I saw some of your old posts on there. It is soo funny to recognize people from the pics in their sigs LOL.

Yay I'm in! :yay:

Turns out that all of my requests for an application were filtered through junk mail, but its all worked out and I've finally started posting on Disneymooners :thumbsup2

Hello! As a moderator of the original Disneymooner forum, I wanted to try and answer some questions for you guys.

1. disneymooner.com is the original and true Disneymooner address. Someone who is not associated with us at Disneymooner.com is creating a group at disneymoonerS.com and also mousemooners.com. Please know that these are not part of our forum and have nothing to do with us.

2. The reason we ask that all applicants complete a questionaire is to protect not only yourself, but also those on our forum. It is not a public forum, and all membership requests are reviewed by the administrators and moderators of the board.

3. We only approve those who are actively planning a wedding at Walt Disney World or Disneyland. By actively planning, it means that you have called WDW or DL and have been assigned someone to help you. If you have not chosen locations, but have spoken to a WP, please apply and put that on your application. We are not trying to be difficult, but we have 400 members, all of whom are planning or have planned a Disney FTW, and the primary purpose of the board is to help with those plans.

4. If you do not get a response after applying, keep in mind that we all have jobs and families (all mods are past Disney brides) and occasionally it may take time for your app to be reviwed and approved. Also, e-mail gets lost in Spam boxes and filters, so your application or our response may have gone to the great e-mail circular file. Please re-email us. We don't bite and really do want to help you get to the board.

If there are any questions, you can feel free to PM myself any time and I will try and help you as much as possible.

It seems like a lot of hoop jumping just to do what we do here on the DIS... :confused3 Or it could be that I'm already so stressed at this point that the very idea of having to "apply" and be "approved" just to trade ideas about my wedding is just too much! I'm sure it's much more than that, and I get why they have the whole process in place but a girl REALLY has to want to "be in the club" to go through all that! I'll take the DIS forums any day!!! princess: :wizard: The simpler life can be, the BETTER!!! :goodvibes

Each of this boards has their pluses and their own information. I enjoy both.

Do u think the disneymooner forum will let u join if u only have a Sales mangers name? Or does it have to be an EM name u give?

We want to do something a bit special for our wedding but were holding off signing our contract for:

1) to see if we can get exactly what we want, as far as me know this has never been done b4

2) to wait till the 8 months mark which is required

Without signing our contract we wont have an EM & I just fear by the time the wedding starts getting planned in full swing i'm gonna be far to stressed to worry about filling in forms, & worrying if i'm going to be accepted to a private forum.

I believe when I filled out the form there was a space for EM OR SM. I only had a SM too! You will learn alot so it is worth it to try to join.

When I joined the Disneymooners way back when I only had a sales manager, too.

Absolutely! You can join with only and SM! In fact, that is best, because you can read up on all the locations before you sign your contract. :)
