why is it fair,,,,,

How did the call go?

WELLLLLLLlllll,,,, they have a 1 bedroom for tue-thur@SSR and then a studio for the weekend, still more points than we wanted to use but just maybe,,,, i'll stay waitlisted for just a few more days and see what happens,

The port Orleans it was cash not usage of points, but we spent enough on points already:badpc:

I'm sure I will get flamed but if a room is empty - especially only 30 days out, doesn't it make sense to fill a room with anyone, be it DVC member, paying cash or from another time share? I would think the Disney business model would prefer to have SOMEONE in a room rather than have the room empty.

I too have encountered similar situations. I know its a fact of DVC membership, but its frustrating to know there are empty rooms that we cannot reserve with our points. I'm all for planning ahead, but sometimes being spontaneous is fun but usually spontanteous and DVC don't go hand in hand.

Not flaming...it just isn't exactly legal to rent the same room twice on points, if they are turned over to cash because a member traded out, they are actually considered rented on points.

Within 30 days, if you change the reservation to less points, the remainder go into a holding account.

Yes, this is important because you are in this period. You may just want to think, "OK, these are the points we have spent." If you know you will be going again this Use Year, and if you think it's a time that you will be able to book 60 days or less out, then, yes, do it. But I do not think I would try to save points at this point...you've spent them, relax and enjoy the 1 bedroom!

Yes Bobbi,
I think it does add up to just relax and enjoy. My wife is an Elementary School Librarian ,our kids are all grown and in college. That being said we just wanted to get away while its"quiet" in Disney.Maybe even plan something in Oct. with our next yrs. points.
Thank you

If the room is empty housekeeping doesn't have to clean it. If a DVC member stays in that room on points, Disney makes nothing. So they save money by not filling the room. If they DVC member wants to pay cash, that won't be a problem.

Plus like Chuck said, they would be booking the room twice on points. And that can't be done. In otherwords, it was booked once by a member to trade out for another Disney vacation (non-DVC).

The truth is, spontaneous and any timeshare don't go hand in hand! I only own DVC, but I understand that with many other timeshares, when you purchase you buy a particular type of room for a particular week. If you want to do something else, you trade out. It seems to me that DVC offers a lot more flexibilty in that regard -- but like any timeshare you get the most out of it when you plan ahead! :)

i do understand that most timeshares you are renting a particular week vs others. Thats why DVC made sense to us we had a choice when to go and when not to.

Similar situation -- closed in late Dec (this past Dec) on our resale and were going to DW in late Jan. I was pretty sure I wouldn't find a studio for the entire 5 nights at one place. MS did the best they could to find me a studio but I did resort hop a bit. Didn't interfere with our plans and luggage was taken to our new home each time we moved. I LOVED staying in the villas and kind of enjoyed seeing the different resort homes. I don't regret buying BWV but it was fun to see the others. Good luck -- I know resort hopping isn't for everyone but MS did find me rooms. *Very busy time in late January - lots of conventions going on!

DVC and the resort will let the rooms go empty rather than upgrade you or give a non points room for points.
