Why is GFV booked and Poly wide open?

I know the obvious answer that there are so few standard view studios at GFV and many more at Poly.
However GFV is booking std view studios at 7 months the hour the window opens, and all of May and June are wide open for Poly std view, same amount of points.
Are people really not liking Poly?
I booked GFV because it seems like it is/will be so hard to get, better grab it will I can. I stayed there in 2014, and planned Poly only this trip, but my daughter would like to try both, of course. It seemed like I had to grab GFV now, and can change to Poly later. I was really surprised. I thought Poly would still be in demand, maybe more so now that most of the construction mess is done.
Do people not like Poly? Really surprised it is wide open.

There are twice as many rooms at PVB currently declared, and four times as many when fully declared. There are just many more rooms available.

The pool near the DVC rooms is still under pretty major construction so maybe that is deterring people at the moment

Reasons:

1. VGF has only 47 studios. Because price per point and points needed per night were so high when VGF went on sale, most purchasers bought enough points just to get studios, while purchasing all the points applicable to studios, 1BRs, GVs and 2BRs, with the result that there are always far more points chasing stiudio reservations than there are studios.

2. DVC's off-season is mid-Jan to late Sep, including holidays during that period. DVC's high demand season is late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan. DVC's extemely high demand times which are during that high demand season are: Columbus Day weekend and days leading up to it, the Thurs to Sun of the weekend immediately after Columbus Day, the Thurs-Sun of the weekend in November that has thw Wine & Dine race, the Tuesday to friday of Thanskgiving week, the first two weeks of Dec, Christmas week, and the Thursday to Sunday of marathon weekend in Jan.

3. Result of the above: VGF studios often disappear at 11 months out during the high demand season and there can be issues even getting them at all at 11 months out during the extremely high demand times. VGF studios actually do disappear much of the time before 7 months out even during the off-season and can even disappear closer to 11 months out at some of the times during that off-season.

4. Possibly because it recognized its mistake with VGF, Disney came up with PVB. Like VGF, the price per point and points needed per night are very high and ridiculously high for the 2BR bungalows. However, Disney skipped 1BR and 2BR villas and made well over 300 studios. Result: despite that purchasers seeking studios are likely buying most of the bungalow points besides just the studio points, much of the risk of PVB studios disappearing before or exactly 11 months out during the high demand season is likely avoided. There might still be some risk of that during the extremely high demand times and we will not really be able to make any conclusions until Feb 2016 or more likely not until PVB is mostly sold out. Additional result is that PVB has been easy to get even at 7 months out and beyond during the off-season, although that still awaits further verification after PVB gets closer to selling out.

Stayed there over Memorial Day weekend. Had a less than stellar experience. No plans to ever stay there again.

Just the opposite experience at VGF. Loved our one stay there. Would jump at the chance to stay there again!

See, that is what I was wondering.
I know DVC Mike reported his Poly studio was filthy. I have not seen many posts of people praising Poly, though they may be here and I missed them.
I wonder if many are "one and done" as you say. Just seemed strange to me this AM when I looked, and Poly was still wide open for all of May, far enough past the 7 month mark to be booked.

There is maybe a bit of that we love VGF in fact we own there but have no interest in staying at the Poly. I also think a lot of owners bought VGF points only to stay at VGF and don't trade out (we certainly don't)

However, I think the current situation with booking the Poly is temporary until they sell more points

Actually, the pool construction is not impacting any DVC buildings to speak of except for the west/pool side of Tokelau. From Moorea and Pago Pago as well as the east/non-pool side of Tokelau the view is quite nice with zero construction to be seen.

I know we have had reports of a very dirty room from DVC Mike, but I have also stayed at the Poly villas and our room was spotless. If we are all to be fair, there have been reports of dirty rooms at any and all DVC resorts (as well as other Disney hotels). It's never okay for a room to be less than very clean, but it happens. A quick call to a Housekeeping mgr or FD mgr along with some pix if necessary should get it remedied asap. If it's really bad and/or your family needs the room now for downtime, ask for a room change.

We had a very nice stay at the Poly villas back in May. The location is awesome, the grounds at night time are among my favorite on property (construction on the quiet pool notwithstanding) at WDW. There are some good restaurants on property at the Poly and it is on the monorail. Our stay in May won't be our last there.

In my opinion GF is a much more popular resort than poly

Different products. VPB is converted older buildings, VGF is a new building with up scale amenities. The vibe at VGF is more formal, at the Poly more laid back.

For us our order of preference for monorail resorts is VGF, BLT and then the POLY only as a last resort.

VGF because of the style of the resort and rooms and BLT because you can walk to MK. While I really liked the view we had at the POLY, the resort itself does nothing for me. We stayed at the POLY on this trip and thankfully it didn't rain, but this must be an annoying resort to stay at in the rainy season as there are no covered walk ways to get to the main building.

After our first stay at VGF I thought we'ld never get to stay there again because of there being so few studios, but amazingly I managed to get 6 nights in a standard view studio in May. Looking forward to staying there again.

Stayed at Poly once, that turned out to be one too many. DO NOT BUY until you see it. It NOT the Poly resort, all the charm and island feel of the original Poly is gone.

When a resort is sold out (VGF), it means just a tad under 98% of the points owned at that resort can be competing for all the rooms in the home booking period.

When a resort is active in sales, a portion is declared (around 42% of PVB declared) and they have a portion sold (about 18% of PVB that we know about right now). In PVB's case, this means over half of the rooms available for booking will be booked by non-owners.
As the sold points nears the declared points, they will declare more units. This cycle repeats until they have declared 100% of the units. In time, PVB will be considered sold out. Until that time, it's speculation on what the real booking patterns will be for PVB. Time will tell.

PVB is a different model (studios and high point 2BRs) than all previous resorts. This makes it more likely that even Disney doesn't know what the final booking patterns for PVB will be when it's sold out.

We have been there once, not happy with the lake view and now possibility of parking lot when getting standard, so we're done. But the GF is our new favorite, just love it!

I think just the sheer number of studios at PVB will make it so that it's not difficult to get a studio during the home resort window and right at 7 months for now, and when it's sold out I think the booking pattern will be similar to BLT/BCV/BWV, where certain times of the year will sell out quickly and other times not so much.

We stayed at Poly for the first time in September. It is really spread out. We were in the Moorea building, and while I'll standard view was great, the location is very far from the Ceremonial house and monorail. It was a problem when it rained as previously mentioned, no covered walkways. Give me VGF anyday!!! This was our first and last stay at Poly.

My DH & I loved our 5 night Poly DVC stay before the MC this past August. We don't have any reservations about staying there again in a studio.
