Why is Facebook worth billions?

keep in mind that the movie is fiction. There are little pieces of fact in it but it is not the actual story of facebook or mark zuckerberg.

facebook is worth so much primarily because of the treasure chest of detailed information the users give it. depending on how facebook evolves it has the potential to be a portal to 3rd parties, much like it currently is for social gaming, and facebook will be almost a social wrapper for that content.

Of course it could also crash and burn. Only time will tell. When i was showing google to my friends in 2000 i would have never guessed they would one day be on their way to becoming the most powerful company on the planet.
