Ok, getting ready to finalize August ADR's my DS's are 6 & 7
We are getting to WDW in the early afternoon and figured for the first night we would just hang out at WL and swim. I was considering CM for dinner to get the kids excited and they are going to want to go to the MK but I think we need the rest. Is CM good for dinner or should we try some where else.

I was told that LTT was not a good idea for a place to eat in August because it is so hot and that is such a hugh hot meal. Does anyone else agree.

I was thinking about Ohana's for a late breakfast on our resort / DTD relaxation day. And then I need an idea for a dinner either in DTD or another resort for that night.

Are they still doing the Fantasmic Package we were going to try for Mama Melrose.

We were planning an early diner at WCC one night before we go back to the park.

Is coral Reef worth or should we try somewhere else.

Also what about the day that we leave. We have a late flight out. Should we do a Character Breakfast or just go to the Parks.

And Kona Cafe was it worth going to and for which meal.

My husband won't discuss anything with me he thinks I am crazy because it is Feb. and I am worried about vacation in August!!!! I am driving him nuts. But he doesn't realize we need to be a little organized.

PLEASE HELP I WOULD APPRECIATE IT! ALONG WITH ANY SUGGESTIONS OF ADDITIONAL PLACES TO EAT AT!!!!!!!!

Thanks

I think Chef Mickey's is a great way to start a vacation, especially given the ages of your boys! We love LTT and I would not shy away from it simply because it's August...why not try WCC on your DTD/relaxation day? If not, Planet Hollywood or Rainforest Cafe are fun in DTD.....on the day you leave, which park will you be in? If it's MK, why not end the trip with a character breakfast at Crystal Palace? I think character meals are a good way to begin and end a trip :)

We were just there for 9 days in January and tried out some new restaurants. My DD is 5 (will be 6 in a week) and has been to WDW 6 times so she knows what she likes and doesn't! :)

She really enjoyed the Japanese restaurant where they cook in front of you - Teppanyaki in Epcot. I think that was her favorite. We did a walk up for Sci Fi and while we did not get a car, we had a "flying saucer" (round table in the back!) but she still enjoyed it. (She loved the old scary movies) So - having an ADR to get a car would have been even better - but what could I expect for 4pm on a Friday on our first day?! (Wasn't sure when we would get there etc - so didn't want to plan too much)

Had lunch at Mama Melrose one day (walk up) and she loved her food there. We had an adult dinner at Artist Point at WL and put her in the Cub's Den (child care). We loved that meal (buffalo for DH and salmon for me - with a nice wine sampler) and she had fun - so something for you to consider if you want an adult night at your resort.

Tried the Mexican restaurant in Epcot (name is escaping me right now) and that was fun. It was crowded, but we were able to get a table within 5 minutes as a walk up. My daughter enjoyed the atmosphere and found out she likes cheese quesadillas! We also tried Rose and Crown for a late lunch - also a walk up. If we had a better table with a view of the lake, it would have been nicer, but we were seated by the kitchen door even though we were the only ones in the area. :confused3 But, we were tired and wanted a quick lunch before we headed back to the hotel. The stew was good and our daughter loves their fish and chips.

We skipped the character meals this trip - which was fine for all of us. Never get my money's worth because my daughter is too busy waiting for characters and doesn't eat! Then we end up getting her more food within an hour! ;)

Hope that helps. Have fun planning. I LOVE to plan, but left some spots open for this trip and that was nice (notice all the walk ups!). Gave us the flexibility to just snack around Epcot or snack on the Boardwalk since we stayed at BWV.

I think LTT is great anytime of year. We ate there this past October, when it was really no cooler than August, and had no problems with the food being too stuffy for summer. Also, the character dining here may be the best Disney has to offer, IMHO. We love LTT.

I think Chef Mickey's breakfast is a great way to start or end a vacation. As for Kona -- I'd go for breakfast. The breakfast is delicious and not at all expensive. We ate dinner at Kona a few weeks ago and the food was not very good. We won't eat dinner there again. We also didn't like LTT. We would recommend Le Cellier for dinner.

Have a great trip!

Go to Chef Mickey's the first night. It's a great first day Ice Breaker and you will not have to wait in the long lines in the park the next day to see Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, or Chip n Dale. We thought dinner was fine.

Spoodles on the boardwalk.
Are they still doing the Fantasmic Package
Yes

Sounds good.

It gets mixed reviews. It's up/down percentage is toward the bottom of places on the property. That may change now that it's one credit instead of two on the dining plan.
Also what about the day that we leave. We have a late flight out. Should we do a Character Breakfast or just go to the Parks.
How bout trying for a Crystal Palace before the park opens breakfast time?
And Kona Cafe was it worth going to and for which meal.
Never been but it gets thumbs up from most at all meals.

Should I put WCC on my resort day. Or is there somewhere in DTD that is worth eating at?

WCC is a lot of fun at dinner. Since you are staying at WL, give it a try.

I think we're married to the same guy. My husband thinks I'm a flake also. Our trip isn't until the week after Thanksgiving. I have to have this figured out though before we go and it's going to take me that long to do it! Just when I see a lot of good reviews for a place (or vice versa) and decide to put it on my must-do list, I begin seeing several bad reviews for the same place. What I want to do is try a different place for each meal. I'm having a lot of trouble deciding on Rainforest Cafe, Mama Melrose, Sci-Fi and a few others. My must-dos are Beaches & Cream, Le Cellier, Ohana and Boma. We're going to be staying for a week. I have a lot more decisions to make! :confused3

May I suggest you think about Trails End for you first night? We really enjoy this place. You could take the resort launch from WL to Fort Wilderness, have dinner, go to the Campfire and enjoy the movie after.

Below is allearsnet's info on the campfire.

The campfire program is open to all WDW resort guests. It generally begins around 7 p.m. during the fall/winter season and 8 p.m. after the time changes in April through the summer. It is held near the Meadow Trading Post in the campfire area. The program begins with a sing-along led by a Disney CM and a marshmallow roast around two campfire rings. You may bring your own marshmallows or buy them at the Chuckwagon (roasting sticks and marshmallows are $2). You may also buy pizza, hot dogs, candy, nachos, juice, popcorn, sodas, coffee, beer and other refreshments at the Chuckwagon. While this is going on, Chip and Dale make an appearance to visit with guests and sign autographs. The sing-along lasts about 40 minutes. Next, one or two Disney animated features, depending upon the season, are shown on a large outdoor screen. Seating is available in bleachers or on benches. There is also plenty of room to lay out a quilt or blanket. The movie schedule is posted at all comfort stations. In the event of rain, the sing-along is still held on the porch of the Meadow Trading Post.

Oh, for the love of Pete, avoid Mama Melrose's!!!

We've done fantasmic twice with the dinner package. The first time was with Hollywood and Vine, which is a buffet so you can time your meals. We got to watch the Star Wars parade (it was during the whole star wars thingie) and then duck in and eat. We had a 5 pm adr and got to the 7 pm fantasmic in plenty of time.

The second time was at Mama Melrose's. It was, without a doubt, the WORST meal we've ever eaten on Disney property. We had a 4 pm adr and were seated promptly in a half empty restaurant, and then spent the next TWO AND A HALF hours being pretty much ignored by the waitress. It was so, so awful. Most of our party left before dessert so they could see the parade, and my father and I sat there waiting for the waitress to come by so we could order desserts to go and get our check. We waited, and I kid you not, another 30 minutes.

The manager was bussing tables, if you can believe it. By the time we got out of there and found the rest of our party and got over to Fantasmic, it was boiling over with people and it was standing room only, which my mom couldn't do because of her age. So, bummer for that.

I wrote Disney a letter telling them about the poor service, and got the standard "we're sorry about that, here's some disney money" letter back, so the sting of paying for such a bad meal was removed, but we'll never go back to Mama Melrose's. In fact, we now avoid any disney meal that relies on the waitress to bring you your food! :p

We love to go to Chef Mickey's on our first night! On our last trip we stayed at WL and it was SO EASY to get to the Contemporary (boat). After dinner at CM, we rode the monorail to Epcot and it was fun to see the Magic Kingdom and Epcot! :cool1:

My sons loved Whispering Canyon Cafe! We did not like Roaring Forks though - not enough variety.

We're trying quite a few of the other restaurants you mentioned on our trip in May. This is the first time we're eating at so many sit down restaurants (dining plan) and I hope my sons (6 and 8) will go for it! They usually love to swim at the resort in the evenings. pirate: pirate:

We Always do Chef Mickey for the first night dinner, it kicks off the vacation! I LOVE the dessert bar. We follow dinner with a shopping trip to Downtown Disney or the Boardwalk. I LOVE the dessert bar. We try to always have dinner the last night at Hoop Dee Doo so that as vacation is coming to a close you are sad but still have that to look forward to. We've never been disappointed.

Thumbs up to WCC- we go there every trip for dinner.

I liked Kona for dinner- I thought the food was really tasty!

mseg16222, chill out... you have plenty of time to plan and enjoy the planning. Have you ever been to WDW before? It can be overwhelming for sure. Use the menus on the allearsnet website, very helpful.

I am not a fan of Chef Mickey (nor were my kids) but lots are. Just didn't live up to the hype for us. We liked the character meal at BC better, loved Spoodles breakfast too.

Places my kids loved at your kids ages:

Garden Grille
Teppanyaki
ESPN Club
Sci-Fi

Good luck. :thumbsup2

Now you sound like my husband...LOL!! I have been to Disney before but DH and DS's haven't been!!!! I guess listening to everyone on here can stress you if your ADR are not done way in advance. Thank you for your opinion on CM!!!!

I wouldn't try to answer all your questions, but I can answer a couple of them. Yes, the FantasMick dinner reservation program is still running, and the Italian Resturant you mentioned is on the list.

At Epcot, the Coral Reef is one of my favorites, but the rest of my family isn't so sure why I feel that way. I like the wall of fish swimming by, the reasonable sized portions they serve, and the food is great I think.

Enjoy.

It really is overwhelming when you are trying to plan. My best advice is look over the menu and decide what you think your family might enjoy. You are going to get a million different opinions on every restaurant.

We always liked Chef Mickeys and Crystal Palace. Others hate it. We like Kona and Mama Melroses, too. Go with what you think your kids will like and I am sure you will have a great time.

Honestly, the only really bad meal I ever had was at Capt. Cooks in the Poly.
Years ago Le Cellier had terrible reviews and now it is super popular. We went to Le Cellier in 2000, happened to be Canadian Thanksgiving, and had one of the most magical experiences ever. At that time, the reviews were awful.

Food and the dining experience will be different for everyone. Pick what you think you will enjoy and you probably will.

Mama Melrose's is one of our favorites. We have been 5 times and always had absolutely fantastic service. We enjoy the food, but the service is the real gem here.
