Why is Disney Hollywood Studios the least favorite park?

Hollywood Studios is an interesting case for me. In my opinion when it comes to attractions, DHS has many of the highest highs and a lot of the lowest lows...without much in between.

They have arguably the best nighttime spectacular the The World (fantasmic), one of the best and most technologically advanced family rides (toy story mania), perhaps the best themed thrill ride (tower of terror), its most thrilling roller coaster (aerosmith), and a phenomenal christmastime "event" (osbourse dancing lights). These are all huge feathers in its cap that keep people coming back.

But wow, there are a lot of bad attractions or attractions that have run their course. I love star wars and indy, but star tours is in embarrassing shape. Indy jones needs an overhall - or to be switched to another franchise. The backlot tour needs to go and the great movie ride needs a serious update. Once you've seen Lights, cameras..., that really is enough.

The beauty and he best show isn't bad, but little mermaid needs help.

I do personnally love one man's dream and the animation academy, but those don't hold the attention of many guests.

Basically, they need to prop up the rides that SO BADLY need renovating. A little TLC to help balance things out would breathe fresh air into this park.

Update Indiana Jones
Update Great Movie Ride
Update StarTours
Update the Animation Tour
Close Sounds Dangerous
Close Back Lot Tour (or make major updates that will involve adding land to the park)
Close Narnia
New Cars based attraction
New Incredibles based attraction
New Disney Archives walk though created by the company historians

There is no way they are going to turn it into working studios again, that ship has sailed. More attention to Sci-Fi movies, an attraction based on The Black Hole (a classic) or Tron. I also think they could come up with a tour, kinda like the backstage tour of Magic Kingdom... but have it be a made up story of a much older studio, with more elaborate back stories, that intertwine with the actual back stories.

Fantasmic! has to be getting close to needing a refresh as well, even though it is my favorite spectacular. And they might want to think about changing out beauty and the beast.

Wow, thats a lot... I like the DHS, but even with TSM most of the attractions seem dated.

I soooo agree with you... I'd love to see a Car's attraction and even a Monster's Inc. ride. My kids DD10 and DS7 really only care to go to DHS for RC, ToT and Star Tours. Once we finish riding these, they are ready to go back to the Fort Wilderness or head on over to Epcot or MK.

I did not have an opportunity to visit DHS until 2007. Many have mentioned that it was a working studio at one time - what type of work was done there? Animation, movies, television productions? Nothing is done there anymore?

I love the beauty of Hollywood and Sunset Boulevards. The one change to them I would make is move the hat to outside the front gate of the park - maybe an island where the bus stops are located.

One Man's Dream is great, but either needs to be expanded or have a Disney Archives exhibit/display opened along side it. Stick to just animation and live action production.

I do love all the parks and have trouble choosing a favourite but would say that DHS was our second favourite after MK. We travelled last in December 2007 which was pre TSM and AI. While I have to say I'm not really interested in AI, we are all excited about TSM. Even without these we loved the park. My kids were 3 and 5 and it was the park they wanted to go back to. I suppose part of this was that they are growing up with Playhouse Disney. That and the Little Mermaid. While we (adults) loved ToT and RnR, there was a plenty for the kids aswell. I love the ideas others have mentioned of Cars and Monsters Inc rides.

this was one of my favorite parks, but now I think I know why it isn't popular. I was there today and I had to suffer through "HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL" not once but twice. Gads! if I hear that screechy shrill song and dance nightmare one more time it could be my end:lmao:

Oh forgot to mention HSM. My girls would watch this over and over. They just loved it. Its something else they are talking about for the upcoming trip.:rotfl:

We were at DHS Tuesday and, while we were there all day, I don't feel like we got a lot in. DHS is the least favorite park for me, not because of the individual attractions but because it is logistically a nightmare. Every year I say I am going to see Lights, Motor, Action for instance. But, we finish an attraction and have 45 minutes to kill until that show begins so we figure we will find something to do because we don't want to waste close to an hour and the next thing you know we have gone past the start time for that show. I have yet to see that show! There are no quick hits to fill in the gaps. Every attraction seems to take a big time commitment so there is no flow. Also, I agree with p.p. who said she gets lost there. We spent a lot of time wandering in circles at one point because we were lost. We never have that problem at any of the other parks.

I do love the street acts, though. I haven't seen anything on the Dis about Mulch, Sweat, and Shears and we happened to stumble across them. They were great!! I loved them!

Excellent point about the shows! I want to do this park in the morning, but the shows don't start until around lunch and then into the afternoon.
