Okay what have I missed?

why is DVC doing a survey that ask questions about Disboards?

they are also thinking about going on Facebook. only on facebook for the discounts - plus some relativies.

Anyone know why DVC is asking questions about the Dis?

Disney has included the DIS and other unofficial sites for some time in their surveys.

Questions like what Internet forums do you use to plan your Disney vacation.

Probably just to see which websites DVC Members frequent. I haven't heard of anything in the works.

I wouldn't read too much into the survey.

What survey is this, I never get them and what did they ask?

it comes up on the DVC member website.

mostly asking questions about the DVC website - then it suddenly started asking about the Dis, facebook and myspace.

Given the reletive stone age quality of the DVC site, they probably are not analyizing the web metrics of the dvcmember site. Thus they have no clue where their members are coming from or going to. Which from a management standpoint is pretty sad.

Disney is probably just catching up. I am active on Twitter (though not a maniac) and there are a lot of non-Disney but Disney-related accounts out there. The same is true for DIS...they may finally realizing the power of social media and how they have "lost" control of the brand.

Like other posters have alluded to, I think it is simply to find out how/where DVC members rely on to get information. If they know that, for example, 80% of its members use Dis boards they will know it is a good representation of what members are saying and what issues they have.

A friend of mine works for Omniture and said that Disney is starting to use their service to understand how people use their web sites, where they are coming from, where they end up on the site, what they do once they get there, etc. I don't know if this includes the DVC web sites, but hopefully some of this will rub off on DVC.

I've had that same question on DVC questionnaires in the past as well. I only hope they help Disney get a complete and intuitive overhaul of their archaic and cumbersome web site.

I do lots of Disney surveys and have to say that all of the websites I visit are listed in additional to Disboards, like mousesavers and allears.

AAAAKKKKK!! Don't tell me that in order to get a Disney discount we have to join Facebook?

This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back for my husband.

I believe the OP meant that they themselves were only on Facebook for the discounts and to keep in touch with a few family members. :)

Oh, never mind (remembering Emily Litella :goodvibes)

Thank you. I keep getting invites to join Facebook and really do not want to!:thumbsup2

me too - what got me to join was DtD - think it was the Hilton had a $59 rate but only if you joined facebook.

so I did - then found out that the dates were wrong for me..:rotfl:

that say have some relatives on it that immediately (or almost) contacted me - so can use it.:rotfl:

that say it definitely bothers me that Disney is looking at Facebook. Why can't they fix their own website - especially if they are considering discounts?

I am on several other websites too - mousesavers, passporter, magictrips, no questions about those.

About 4 years ago I participated in a presentation by the Disney Institute dealing with the Disney philosophy and business model. The facilitators stated that Disney has cast members who are employed to monitor the discussion lists and get a feel for what Disney is doing wrong or right. No doubt they are attempting to disaggregate the data further be getting an idea of what per cent of DVC members verses non-members provide input on the various sites. Recently disneycareers.com was advertising for an individual with expertise/background in social networking. In fact a large number of the current openings are IT/online technology related. Of course we shouldn't forget that Mr. Apple, Steve Jobs, is the largest shareholder and member of the board. There is a new wind blowing at the "Happiest Place on Earth."

I'm curious to know why Disney partnered with Verizon on the Mobile Magic App rather than AT&T or Apple if this is the case.

I'm curious to know why Disney partnered with Verizon on the Mobile Magic App rather than AT&T or Apple if this is the case.

First, Verizon was originally one of the 7 Baby Bells (Bell Atlantic Corporation) founded bt AT&T before the gov't breakup. Since Verizon's primary service area initially was the east coast it made perfect sense for Disney to partner with Verizon for the Mobile Magic App since WDW is located on the east coast and there is a strong presence of visitors from that section of the country. Second, Apple initially went with AT&T for the iPhone due to its expansive network and larger customer base. There is a strong rumor that there will be an iPhone for Verizon after the first of the year. Hence Apple is again expanding its customer base. The iPhone for Verizon will not have all the capabilities of the AT&T unit due to limitations in Verizon's network. Don't forget that Disney, under Bob Iger, has found a way to generate income from its competition, eg. Marvel's Super Hero Island at Universal's Islands of Adventure. Oops! I'm :offtopic:
