Why is this deluxe resort sinificantly cheaper? Is there somethinmg wrong with it?
Also is the weather in November warm enough toswim in the pool? Am thinking about a long weekend around Veterans Day

Not sure why the Contemporary is cheaper.

As far as the weather, it was beautiful during our one November trip, the kids swam every day. The WDW resort pools are heated, so there should be no problem if it's on the cooler side.

I think the Contemporary is cheaper because there isn't as much theming as the other resorts. It is still a very nice resort though.

Maybe the garden wings are cheaper but I've always found the tower at the CR to be much higher then other deluxes. The garden rooms are not nearly as desirable as the tower rooms IMHO. I wouldnt stay in the wings even if it were only $100 a night. I'm always waiting for the codes to work for the CR tower and can never get it lower then $365 a night. The Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom are the cheapest deluxes pricing at $145 and $134 respectively for a standard view. I went with the Poly for next week as it only cost $204 a night compared to the CR tower at $365 a night. Big difference! :D

My experience has been the wing rooms are way cheap if you consider $159 and up cheap. The tower rooms which are the only rooms I'm interested in are normally harder to get with a discount. I did get a tower room in '99 for $179 a night, those were the days. We love the Cont. Tower 10th floor and up. Love IT!!!!

I think that the garden wings are cheaper because so many people think that they just don't look as "fun" as other resorts. The theming isn't quite the same as the others, and you don't have the views in the garden wings that you get in the tower. Personally, I like the garden wings. I never wanted to stay in them, but we had to once because everything else was booked, and we had a blast. The rooms are bright and huge, and the location at CR can't be beat.

Even though the garden rooms don't seem very Disney in theming, we enjoyed them very much on our one stay there 2 years ago. I would do it again, but the AS is just such a bargain that I haven't been tempted lately.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is all this code stuff all about? Is this how you get a discount off the rack rates?

Check out mousesavers.com and you'll get a good idea of how to save money on a trip to Orlando.

I would say a trip to Disney, but there's all sorts of information there.

Glad you're onboard. There is a site here that explains all of the codes. There's also mousesavers.com which helps with codes. Codes are a way to book the Disney resorts at significant discounts.

The Contemporary, in my opinion, is just not a great resort. We usually don't stay in deluxes, but we've visited most of them. If I was going to spend the dollars for a deluxe, I would stay at the Wilderness Lodge, Grand Floridian, or Yacht Club. I think these resorts are the best themed and have the best food and amenities. In my opinion.
:p

Just thought I'd add a "Contemporary Memory" comment - I stayed at the Contemporary in August 1972 - wing room - vacation for my parents 25th anniversary - riding the monorail evry day was truely magical!! I believe the room was only @35/night!!!!! Of course at that time it was considered "ultra-modern" !!
I have been back to WDW several times and am currently planning a trip for Feb 2003 - hope to go back to Contemporary some day - great memories!!!!!

Why is it cheaper? The words of my Uncle as we floated by on the boat from the WL. "It looks like a jail."

You know what, if it is cheaper, all the better for me, I love the Contemporary.

We'd never tried the Contemporary Resort until SoG closed for renovation and expansion.

I felt right at home as soon as I walked into my room. I love purple- it's my favorite color, and the carpet in our room was purple!!!

Everyone has been wonderful here (almost), and nobody has ever made us feel like 'second-class citizens' because we are transplants from SoG.

Some don't like it, some do..... we went with an open mind, and have really enjoyed ourselves there. Not only that, but we can walk to the MK and pet our brick!!

Wherever you stay, I'm sure that you'll have a great time!

$365 for a tower room?? Are you out of your mind?? This summer I was offered florida resident code rate of $235 for tower or $248 for tower club! Although, for $138 I was able to get the wing rooms, and I'm not sure that the tower rooms are really worth $100 more a night. The rooms are themed pretty much the same, they're the same size. The only real difference is the view, and having a balcony (although I had a very nice patio with a nice view in the wings, and was able to feed ducks right from my room, so I think better view is just a matter of opinion). For the difference in price, you could almost stay double the amount of time, and still be at the same resort, so not sure it's worth it. For most wing rooms it's not like it's a long walk to the main building or anything, the wings are attached to the main building with covered walkways, the buildings almost touch each other, so you don't even get rained on. It was like a 1-2 minute walk into the main building, maybe 3 if you're way out in the furthest room away. So it wasn't like the walk to the food court from some of the moderate resorts' rooms. So, at least in my opinion, I wouldn't exclude the wing rooms, they're a very good value considering some of them are the closest rooms in all of Disney to the MK.

awatt, my daughter and I went last year over Veteran's day. the pools are heated, and during the day it is warm, low 80s. Once the sun goes down it does get cool, fine while you are in the water, but once you get out, you need a sweatshirt to get back to your room without being cold.

That $365 would be rack rate. However, when we stayed at the Contemporary over New Year's, our rate (tower club) was $505 before taxes ($560 with) - and yes, for one night! Over double what you were offered! Yes, it was a lot of money, but the experience of being there for New Year's was worth it. Probably won't do it again soon, though (those rates can be killer - especially when you can stay full concierge at another resort for less than that other times of the year).

Well yes I understand if it was holiday season. I know the rates are much higher at that time, with usually no codes available. I was there over New Year's last year also ( we were there at the same time!), and I couldn't believe what I was paying for a moderate (I hadn't discovered the wonder and joy of the deluxes yet LOL). I think my rate at that time for just a standard room at Caribbean Beach was like $139 not including taxes, and that was even with a passholder discount or something like that. I think the rack rate was close to $200 LOL. So I know the deluxe prices must have been almost absurd. I would like to go again over New Year's, even more so than at Christmas, but not sure I want to pay those prices though. I'm thinking of either a few days at GF in early Dec. to see the decorations (never stayed there), or 4 or 5 days at another deluxe in Jan. (both! both! can't afford it! can't afford it! LOL)

Good question. I have often wondered the same thing. I have seen rates considerably lower, compared to the other Deluxes. I guess I just thought, it was because it was older. But then, so is the Poly. Whatever the answer, I always know I'm in the "World", when I see the Contemporary! I literally catch my breath, and that is priceless to me!

We were able to get the Tower for this upcoming Halloween stay for$199 incl.tax.The first time in quite a while we were offered a rate that low for the tower.:)
