Why is August 2014 thread closed?

We leave next week for AK. The Aug 2014 thread has been an incredible resource since it's been 3 yrs and I feel like I forgot all my 10+ trip know how, but why's it closed?

I'm assuming it's closed because it hit 250 pages or more. Typically someone would have started a new one before the original one was closed and posted a link to it so people could find it. In all the trip planning excitement I think the thread got away from everyone.

Thanks, Pikester. It is a puzzle especially since there have been many recent, helpful posts. Oh well, can just hope those recent trip tips keep coming.....
