I've tried a few different dates and there are only one or two types of rooms available. I made reservations for a Savannah veiw room Dec. 14-17 and wanted to take off the 14th and add the 18th due to my work schedule. The ONLY room available is a pool view bunk bed room. I dont' want to change rooms. I don't know what we will do. HOpefully I can take the 14th off, but it doesn't look like it. I was going to take the next Monday and Tuesday off instead. I'm going to keep calling, anyone canceling a Savannah veiw room for Dec. 18, by chance?:rotfl: Anyway, I just had to vent. I've been dreaming of AKL forever. We've always stayed at values. It will be our family christmas gift (more for me than anyone, though I suspect DS7 will enjoy it too!) and now I don't know what we'll do. I thought about switchign resorts for a night, but then we'll lose the dining plan, as I don't want to have to pay for more tickets.

This is a crowded time for AK.

First, some rooms may not be open due to construction (not sure on that schedule). It is also possible that there could be convention type people there - that does happen, even though it's not a convention center. It is certainly easily possible that a room will open up, so definitely keep checking. It is rather early for the AKL to be booking up otherwise.

I've noticed too that AKL seems to have booked up earlier this year. I think it must be that there are less rooms available because of the construction...

Very busy time. Few rooms know available due to construction.

I would wait until 45 days when package payments are due and when people might cancel ressies.

I wouldn't wait that long, I'd try every few days in the morning and see if it comes up.

I asked the CM if there were less rooms available due to the construction and he said no, that they were building a completely new resort?:confused3

He said to call every few days to see if someone cancels. I am going to do that! Thanks for the advice.

I tried to book a weekend (12/7-12/9) at AKL and there were no rooms available at all. I was very surprised because last year at the same time the only rooms at Disney that you could count on getting were at AKL. I did ask the CM and she said that ever since announcing the DVC resort that the bookings have really increased.:confused3

They are doing construction inside also, converting rooms from concierge to villas. The CM isn't terribly well informed, but they can't know everything. :)

I thought that that might be the case.

They said that they may open more rooms up closer to then, is that possible?:confused3

Close to when?

I don't know the cause of the rooms not being available. It could be the construction, and I'd guess there will be fewer rooms overall because the villas are larger than the rooms were. But that shouldn't make a huge difference, I'd not think. There could be a group holding rooms for an event, Expedia/Travelocity could be holding rooms, etc. I would personally not expect the AKL to be sold out of that room type otherwise for those dates. I would check back at least once a week to see if you can modify the reservation.

I love that
last year a CM told me I would love the poly and the hot tub their
there is not one at the poly but they insisted there was :rotfl:

Wahoo:banana: My boss just said not to worry about changing my ressies, that those dates will be fine! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Yay!!!

And as far as the hot tub at the Polynesian - it sounds like the CM hasn't stayed there yet! There used to be this wonderful guide in the DRC system called Folios, with TONS of useful information. They no longer have this - they have something that is company wide now, and it isn't specific for DRC (I think Folios sounds much better). The CM's should go to All Ears, that always has the best info!

as far as the AKL being booked in Dec, I was just able to change my 40% ressies from Sept to Dec, at the AKL pool view for 9 nights, starting Dec 9th. so there is still some room somewhere, I even got the discount!

This is so true, there are several DVC members posting about getting their reservations. The rooms are not being pulled out of the air. Sections of the current AKL are being converted to DVC and will stay that way.

To the OP... I am glad it has all worked out for you, this is one of my favorite resorts.

The rooms on the 5th and 6th floors are being converted into DVC villas as the initial phase of the Animal Kingdom Villas.

This is scaring me with my October reservation...is my club level still going to be the same type of thing if they are remodeling the levels? I am so excited and now I am nervous..

LOL...the CM (as is so often the case) is incorrect. The entire (or close to it) 5th and 6th floor of the current lodge (Jambo House, as it's now being called) is currently undergoing conversion into DVC villas. Now, really, the vast majority of rooms being converted are the Deluxe rooms. However, with those not being available anymore (or at least less available, since there might still be some open come December...I don't know), those that WOULD have booked them, normally, are left booking standard sized rooms...so those become scarce, as well.

They ARE building a new AKV building (Kidani Village) but that won't open until sometime in '09.

This has been one of the primary concerns from many AKL guests about the AKV conversion.

I'm not sure exactly what you booked for concierge level...there have been some "Deluxe Concierge" rooms booked for certain time frames,, and, in that case, little will likely change for you. You'll be in one of the unconverted deluxe rooms (likely on the 5th floor, not 6th) currently left.

If you've booked a STANDARD concierge room, you'll now be on the 4th floor, in a STANDARD sized room (so occupancy of only 4, not 5...you lose the daybed)...the one nice thing about these is that all but a handfull are savannah (with a few former "smoking" standard concierge rooms surrounding the pool) view. You'll still have access to the lounge on 6, but at some point coming up, that lounge will start to be run by DVC, rather than the lodge, itself. From what we've been told, you shouldn't expect much to change in the way of offerings, etc.
