I was watching a taped Travel Channel program of "WDW-Behind the Scenes" and one of the Imagineers said something like "..........Walt Disney World was the first theme park that, for the time you were on property, could bring you out of the real world into fantasy, and make you feel safe at the same time, not just while you were enjoying the attractions.............". And I realized that's exactly what it did for me! I DID feel lighthearted and carefree and open to wonderment (just like a kid), and it became pretty much a must-do, almost annual, trip for me and our family. When DVC was first announced, we weren't in the position to buy, but by the end of '97, we jumped in, and then added more in '05.
Today, of all days, I realize what a wonderful gift Walt et al gave us! As the world has gotten more dangerous and a lot less predictable, WDW can still do its magic, and I'm so happy to own part of that gift!
(I know some will say it's an illusion, but nowadays, I want that illusion!)

I agree completely.

so does the military - WDW & DL gets air force planes quick....

I was just listening to the spouses, partners and significant others recite the names of the people who died in the Towers 5 years ago-sitting here crying with them over the unimaginable loss. It's been going on for 3 hours and they are only up to the "S's". Where I live in NJ, you either had someone in your circle die that day, or you knew someone or several someones that did.

My niece and I drove to Florida for Thanksgiving that year, and we spent a couple of days in the World. We were walking out the first night and she turned to me and said- "you just forget everything bad here, isn't that a wonderful thing?"
I think Walt was a very wise man, who knew that there are times that the real world just gets to be too much, and we all need to get away and experience a little magic. I wasn't able to buy into DVC until this year, but I am SO grateful! I know now that at least a couple of times a year I can escape to somewhere that is all about happiness and magic. We need it now more than ever.

DVC is the money I'd otherwise need for therapy...
I tried to use that line on my shrink but she just made me another appointment.

I posted along the same lines. We bought DVC back in 1993 pre-kids. I told DH I wanted us to have someplace to vacation no matter what. Things happen: layoffs, car accidents, house needs a new roof, etc.

This has been a tough summer, and we can't wait to go back in November. We're driving down, will eat breakfast in our room and do counter-service meals otherwise. Probably spend a couple of days at the pool. It's like that Visa commercial: DVC=priceless!

I totally agree with that sentiment! I think all the detail that went into making the fantasy real that first WDW trip we took in 1982 was what brought me back again and again. The attention to authentic details that were able to transport me to another time and place just by entering a turnstile was and still is so magical!

I agree also. :thumbsup2

Life Happens. But it is soo much easier to take because we have DVC.

DVC gets my mental healthcare deductible each year I dont need it. :teeth:

Last year we put our DVC to the test and when all else was failing around us, we had DVC and some AWESOME family vacations.

I love being there and I like the all-inclusive feel that we get and dont really feel a desire to leave the resort at all. The whole place is Magical whether we are in the parks or at DTD or just visiting the resorts.

That's why I'm here.

SSSHHHH...don't tell any of those wizards on the budget board. They wouldn't understand! But I totally agree... so much so that I (gasp) financed the darn thing! I'll take magic over therapy any day!

Took the family to Disneyland Resort the weekend after 9/11. The hotels and parks were almost empty. Flights were just getting going by Friday. We live close so just drove there. It was great therapy for our family. We actually forgot about the twin towers a few times during the trip. The trip really put things in perspective. Family is first in my life now.

Well said everyone! Just the other day DH and I were listening to a Disney CD in the car and he asked if it was crazy to always be looking forward to our next Disney trip, and of course, the answer for both of us is "No way!" :tink:
