Why I am downsizing my DVC..

:) DH and I love our DVC and lately we have been trying to save for an add-on....but...we are in our 40s and do not have children. We only have so much vacation time and our 210 points allows us two trips a year and we bring family on occasion. So I think we are good right now. I remain cautiously optomistic that the economy will return and that Fulton's will do well on the DDP...time will tell.

I appreciate all the level headed advice you guys give and try to stay on top of the lateast threads. So MG best of luck to you and thanks for giving me a nod that maybe we do not really need these points right now after all. I mean my 2012 trips are booked and we are comfy.

MG - Best wishes! Hope all works out well.

Understand the concerns regarding dining. Used to think that TIW and its predecessor brought the prices down to some semblance of value for amount paid. But now, I doubt that is the case. The free dining, DDP and assorted discounts (TIW, AP, DVC) have forced the restaurants to shore up profits by increasing prices and reducing costs. Value has suffered. But not as much as the for the guest paying full price.

Regarding rooms -- at BLT this January the freezer handle came off when I tried to open it and the fridge doors had dents in it. The radio in the bedroom did not work. And brown water came out of the facets. Maintenance was responsive, although it took two calls to get the radio replaced (apparently housekeeping handles that). They had shampooed the sofa and it was still wet, but they neglected to leave a note alerting us to that.

I understand the cost pressures and the need to turn rooms quickly. Hopefully an improving economy will provide some opportunity for Disney to do better.

Best of luck with your decision. I am so sorry about the instability with your career. There was a show on Dateline?? About China hiring all our pilots away by doubling the money they make here. It was on this past week.

Isn't it strange that we live in a time when it is unpopular to be successful??

Janis
Thanks, Janis. Yes indeed it is strange..

MG, I hope all goes well with you, and understand that we have to make the best decisions for our own peace.

Threads like these reinforces our decision to stick with our 100 points as long as there are only 2 of us to use them. We have no desire to add on...no desire to sell. Perfect.

I would love having 800 or 1000 to play with sometime though. ;)
Thanks, MA..
I'm glad you are rightsized with the right number of points you need. That's my goal!!

MG,
Glad to see you post but sorry about the subject. Hope your new points level will fit your vacation needs well. It is sad to read of DVCers unhappy with the quality of rooms. Our Oct. and Jan. stays at BWV showed a marked uptick in the quality of mousekeeping. Several other DISers noted the same thing. I will be interested to see if that is the case when we are at OKW soon. Cleanliness of units matters. Maybe someone in management is finally getting the message.
Good luck on the job front. Things are picking up in MN where I live (unemployment down to 5.6%). Obviously the economy has a ways to go but it seems to be moving in the right direction here. The corporate jets surely will follow!
Good to see you again JJ..
You are the third or fourth person I've heard say that about improved maintenance and housekeeping. I hope we find the same on our next WDW DVC visit in October (May trip is VGC and Poly).
I hope you're right about corporate aviation picking up, but that's largely dependent upon tax laws and the rhetoric out of Washington..

MG - What Jean said about the BWV & MN. :teeth: Hope your job situation improves and stabilizes very soon. It's so good to be able to do what you love and get paid for it. :) It was fun for me to meet you and your wife at my first F&W event a few years back (Sweet Sunday). Hope to run into you again sometime. Carol
Hi Carol.. My wife and I remember you and your husband very well, and we enjoyed SS very much with you. I have a feeling our paths will cross again!

Indeed, vacation TIME is a big factor in number of points a member can own. Currently my wife gets 34 days/year, and I work 7 days on then 7 days off with two weeks vacation. That means I get two 3 week stretches off, plus a whole bunch of 1 week stretches. Not sure what the future holds for my schedule though, and that's yet another potential problem.

Hi Jim.. Nice to chat again. Not sure how to respond other than I agree with everything you said, plus I've had similar room issues.
I'm hoping others are right and things are improving!!
