I have a ressie for Rivieria for Easter.
it is obvious that this is not happening.
my question is why Will those points to into holding?
it is not my choice to cancel.
those points should be put back into my account not holding.

The online system automatically puts cancellations within 30 days into holding status.

They will need to be manually adjusted. Give them time to make the adjustment. From the DVC Website:

"To make the process of changing reservations as smooth as possible, Disney Vacation Club has lifted the close-in reservation cancellation restrictions and will return any of your Points back as Vacation Points or Reservation Points without placing them into holding. Borrowed Points returned due to a cancellation of a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation will not be placed in holding and will be returned to the Use Year they were borrowed from. "

However, any borrowed points will remain in the use year to which they were borrowed. and any banked points used for the reservation will need to be used by the end of the use year into which they were banked.

Right now, many have been successful in having the points not go into holding when canceling online, even if the message comes up.

However, if it happens, and the points do go into holding, a call to MS will have them fixed. That is what I had to do.

I am aware of the notification noted above but has it been confirmed that it applies to reservations with a start date after March 31?

Chuck S - you are the last person I would question - your expertise and helpfulness is awesome. :teeth: But, my interpretation of any reservation cancelled with borrowed points is that they go back to the original UY from which they were borrowed from. Or, is that what you actually meant and I am misinterpreting the second bolded part?

You are correct, and my mistake. I misread the notice.

The website is actually contradictory.
Under Temporary Updates to Our Cancellation Policy (which does not state excluding reservations through March 31, 2020):
Borrowed Points returned due to a cancellation of a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation will not be placed in holding and will be returned to the Use Year they were borrowed from.

Then, under RESORTS (pertaining to reservations through March 31, 2020):
Vacation Points returned due to a cancellation of a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation will not be placed in a holding account at this time and will be returned to their current Use Year.

It seems pretty obvious by now that the closure will last until at least mid-April, sadly. Some people are speculating even longer. This is where it would be nice for definitive guidelines from all the relevant agencies. Disney/DVC will need to comply with whatever the state orders and/or CDC recommends.

Just be aware that I don’t think the borrowed points are automatically move when canceled online. So, you may need to send an email to get it done,

I had to call but that was before the official notice came out saying it was happening.

Thanks, Sandisw. We are not travelling until June 2nd, so it might not even be necessary for me to cancel. Who knows at this point; either way I feel comfortable that I will not be losing my points. I am one of those people who NEVER have to bank points. I stay in perpetual borrowing mode. :crazy2:

We were scheduled for 3/21 and I did cancel on line. I sent an email to Member Services and received this;

We would like to let you know that Members who did borrow Vacation Points to help book their travel plans, such points will be returned back to the Use Year they were borrowed from. It will take some time for this process to be done and ask that you allow around 30 days for those borrowed Vacation Points to be returned to your October 2020 Use Year.

I cancelled April17-22, it told me they would go into holding but they were immediately back in my use year.

I cancelled April 18-24 and points did not go into holding. I sent an email about the borrowed points.
