Why go to WDW solo?

I am thinking of trying to squeeze in a trip to WDW in December.
I just visited this past September with the rest of my family and have another trip planned in January with 2 of my cousins.

But I still would love to go in December. No one in my family or circle of friends has the time off to go, so I am contemplating a first ever Solo Trip.

My family thinks I am crazy, but I think it would be lots of fun.

I have an annual pass and can get a value resort for $59/night. Airfare is around $130ish.

Why do you go solo? What do you enjoy the most about it? How do you convince your family that you aren't crazy (except for Disney ;))

Thanks!

do it!!!

Why not?

come for the www.mousefest.org - lots of us will be there then (might have a problem finding a room)

as far as why go solo.

no one to scream at you, try to control you, make you feel horrible, etc.

you do what you want too - it is YOUR vacation.

if you want to ride Mission:Space 8 times in row - you can.

if you want to sit around and read a book at day at your resort - you can!!!

You do what you want too - not what someone else wants you to do.

I totally agree!!!!!!!!!! I took a solo trip in 2003 and I still feel it was one of the best trips I've ever had. I normally drag along DH and DS (7 who is always a willing participant) but on this trip I got to do what I wanted when I wanted. One of the best things I found was that I could get around much quicker by myself-no kid to drag around, no other hangers on to keep me back.

My family (parents, in-laws) thinks I am crazy and do not understand the Disney devotion but I don't care-I do what I want.

If you want to go then go!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you have a swell trip!!!!!

I just came back from my 1st solo trip, and loved it!

My main reason for traveling solo is just that I can do whatever, whenever, and wherever I want to. I would only want to travel with people who share the same enthusiasm as me.

My last day, I went to all 4 theme parks, which wouldn't have been possible if someone else was with me. It was just one of those spur of the moment things.

This to me is a know brainer - GO !!!!!!!! I will be going on my first solo trip Dec 1 - 10.
I think my wife is glad to get rid of me (you have to be married 25 year to even ask for a solo trip - haha) So much to do with mousefest, dis meets, spirt of Christmas, beautiful decorations, wonderful food, once a year shows, what more could you ask for ?? you only live once - have fun :cool1:

As the newbie to the forums, and one who has been travelling solo for 12 years, I have to say that taking a holiday on my own is the best treat that I can give myself.

There is no one for me to take care of, and no one else that I need to worry about entertaining other than myself. I choose my own itinerary and follow my own schedule -- at my whim. If I feel like having a lazy day and want to sleep-in or take a nap, I can do so without explaining myself to someone else.

As a solo, single female traveller, I have met so many warm and friendly people on my journeys, and learned so much about myself in the process. I value my independence, and find that with each successive solo journey, I become a more confident and better person.

Yes, I have had my share of "why are you going alone" questions from friends and family whenever I plan a trip, but it hasn't stopped me. And I hope that it will not stop you, tebookie, from getting out there and enjoying a great time. SOLO.

** 8 weeks and 3 days until my first trip to Disney World **

I took my first solo trip May '05. I had never been anywhere alone and had never even eaten in a restaraunt alone. My family said there was no way I'd go through with it. However it was the best trip I've ever had. I had the DDE card and made ADRs for everyday eating places my family would not want to try. Each meal got easier and easier, so by the time I left I was absolutely comfortable dining alone. I did three tours (KTTK, Backstage Safari, and Around the World on a Segway). All three tours had solos. I wandered around the Boardwalk one night just people watching. I spent several days at Epcot (my favorite park). I went to bed early one night, which is something I never get to do if I'm with family. You can simply sit on a bench, eat a Dole Whip and people watch if you want. There's always someone willing to take your picture if you want or you can simply volunteer to take others photos, so their whole family can be their photo. Alot of rides have single rider lines or sometimes a CM comes along asking for parties of one to fill a ride. You can ride Soarin over and over if you want. Do what you want, when you want or do absolutely nothing. You'll be surprised at how much faster you can move and how much more you can get done when you're solo.

I loved it so much I'm going back solo Dec 9th-17th. Quite a few other solos are going to be there during that time. I'm eating with a group at CP on Dec 10th and another group at 'Ohannas Dec 12th. I usually have a hard time meeting people, but am forcing myself to branch out.

Almost all of my WDW trips in the last 10 years have been solo and now I am spoiled. My next one at POP is I think Dec 7th thru 13th (haven't checked actual reservation in weeks) then over to RPR for another 5 days. So far I have no ADR's have no Idea of park hours a Room only at POP and a very wrinkled AP in my wallet.
The last visit with others was 3 years ago and was miserable. I am up at 5am every day even at WDW but the group finally was ready around 9:30 to 10:00 but "we" must have breakfast. After getting to the parks the where do we have lunch discussion starts and goes on and on for hours. Taking people that have not been to WDW ever or in many years can be frustrating since the "we" must travel as a group and makes a decision to go on HM first MS next then POC. You try to explain travel time between the 4 parks and you get either blank stares or "I am on Vacation" discussion.

If you have never been on a solo trip my advise is to try it once but and this is really important you will get so spoiled that the next trip with others might suffer from a "magic" level drop. If you start to notice this happening find a reason to break away and get a little me time.

Have fun ...oh great now I had to look..19 days

I went on my first solo trip to the Dis in Sept. and had an awsome time. I went to a Disneyana COnvention and got to meet the original model for Tink (Margaret Kerry) and ate dinner with her and had a wonderful conversation with her and other Disney fans for 3 hours!!! That was only the BEST part of my trip but I did so much more!!! This time I'm going to Mousefest and hope to meet many more new friends who share my love for Disney's Magic!!! GOOOOOOOOOOO and have a WONDERFUL vacation!!!! :cool1:  princess: :dance3: :bounce: :grouphug:

Still planning on meeting at Jellyrolls on the 7th, Ron? Russ? You game? See, tebookie, there's lots of people to meet when you're solo!

Really, the reason I'm doing this solo trip is because everyone I went with last time conspired to try to ruin it for me. So, I'm fixing it. I'm getting the magic back.

Mindy thanks for invite. Doing MVMCP on the 7 th, was thinking of going to Jelly Rolls on the 8 th. If there still any energy after the party I might head over

Ah, I'm being contrary and doing MVMCP on the 5th. I didn't plan this trip around Mousefest, and now I'm missing all the meets...oh well. That's why I'm starting my own, I guess. Besides, I won't be around for JR on the 8th. Have a great time!

I took my first solo trip in October. It was one of the best Disney trips I've ever had. I did what I wanted when I wanted the way I wanted. I ate at restaurants that I enjoyed. I did exactly what I wanted to do at my pace.

It was so much fun--I may never take DH with me again!

Why go to WDW solo?

Why not? You get to do what you want, when you want. You can go to whatever park you want. Ride all the attractions you want to go on, as many times as you want to. You can dine where and when you want.

Don't get me wrong. I love going with family, but love going solo too.

Thanks for the invite unfortunately the 7th is my arrival date meaning I get home from work on the 6th around 5pm pack the vehicle get 6 hours sleep and then up around midnight and on the road for an 13 hours drive. From past trips I should checkin at POP around 2 then off to AK for a cocktail at Dawa.
That day is always mind fried for me. By dark I will be in slow-mo need sleep mode.
