Why get so worked up?

Tricia, not to burst your bubble but ....
We were there a little over a month ago and the wheat hamburger buns were at the CS place in between POTC and Splash Mountain. Sorry, but in years and years of going to WDW, I have yet to figure out the name of the place! Half the time, I can't even get in, because doors are locked, but people appear to be eating meals they'd purchased inside outside.

We also had these buns at Casey's.

Anyway, we eat wheat or whole-grain buns and bread at home (I'm actually partial to flax and oatmeal bread), but the buns we had at WDW last month were soooooo dry and crumbly. The burger was really inedible. As soon as you put ketchup or anything "wet" on it, it pretty much disappeared into the burger. After two bites, I had no choice but to eat it with a fork and knife.

The bun for the hot dogs for both DH & I broke after taking our first bites. After a couple bites with the ketchup and mustard, it turned into more crumbly mush.

The buns were bad. But the burgers they put into the bun were horrid. I know WDW has had good burger years and bad burger years ... we're in the bad burger trend right now.

On a positive note, some of the CS is better now, IMO, with the whole-grain breads. We got a pannini at Pinocchio's Village Haus on whole-grain bread, and it really held up well and made the sandwich feel much more like a "meal." I've had this before pre-whole-grain bread, and it's much more filling on the newer whole-grain bread.

We go to WDW and look forward to enjoying some junk, too. I think we're taking hot dogs and CS burgers off the list for now.

Hopefully, Disney will see the error in their ways and find a new vendor or recipe for the wheat buns. At Pecos Bills, the bun is often cracked and broken when the burger is handed to the guest. They do not hold up well and my top bun broke into 5 pieces after just a few bites.

The buns at Beaches & Cream are not wheat buns and still taste good and hold up well.

Lets face it, the real reason for the changes in all dining is to increase the bottom line, not to eat healthier. As one post noted the chicken nuggests are the same meat cut into smaller pieces. That means it looks like alot but your getting less chicken for the same price. I would also think getting a few grapes bought in mass quanities are cheaper than fries. I like wheat bread if its a good one but many are really bad. Now if disney realy wanted everyone to be healthy theyd end Coke, coffee & booze. But like I said its all about the bottome line & nothing else.

fries anymore than someone who wants the burger and fries should be forced to eat a tofu dog on a whole grain bun.

Does Disney have Tofu Pups or other vegetarian hot dogs? I know veggie burgers are available just about any place that served hamburgers but am not aware of any vegetarian hot dogs served on property.

Oh drat. It's after 2am and now I'm craving a veggie junkyard dog from Spike's.

I've never seen any veggie dogs at WDW...and last time I went I didn't see veggie patties on your burgers as a regular option at very many of the restaurants...in fact I didn't see it offered at any TS restaurant that I went to. Sorry about your craving. :cutie:

Yes, it is true that life expectancy is higher now than it was when cave men roamed the earth. Can't argue with that. However, American's life expectancy is lower than many other 1st world and some 2nd world countries. In addition, somewhat amusingly, we are no longer the tallest people on the planet. While this is not due EXCLUSIVELY to our, as a nation, horrible diet and nutrition (surely, lack of exercise and violence come into play as well), that is a prime factor.

Taitai

Were Americans the tallest? That's pretty cool actually. (Says the 6' woman trying to find a man she can look up to. :lmao: ) I know that American soliders were often better physical specimens than other Allied troops, but that was more of an economic thing: bigger, wealthier country produces more food of a wider variety, especially fruit and veg, etc. But I didn't know we were taller as well. Neato. :thumbsup2

I can so see both sides (or perhaps it is "all") on this issue. On one hand, darn it, I'm on vacation, I can afford to splurge a little. On the other, I'm getting to an age where I just can't get rid of this extra 15 pounds! Any weight I lose before heading to WDW (in 7 short weeks :cool1:) I'd like to try to keep off.

I'm in that middle ground of being able to see everybody's point also. Well, seeing the point of people who aren't being insulting or insensitive to others. ;) I don't have any kids and when I go to Disney it's usually with friends who are also adults and can make up their own minds, so I have the luxury of only having to worry about myself. (And let me tell ya, I can whine like it's nobody's business!) So there are tons of places at Disney that I  with a passion and I feel I've got plenty of choices... but I realize that's because of my own situation. If I had kids (or even if I was bringing along a cranky parent) I'd probably feel differently.

If I had to complain about the DDP this would be my complaint. The majority of the time DD4 would eat off of our plates because she LIKES "adult" foods.

That was me when I was a kid! My parents are still baffled when I eat sprouts and sushi because they won't touch the stuff and neither will my older brother. They were very relaxed about what we ate as kids. There was never a 'finish your plate before you leave the table' attitude nor was there a 'whatever you like I'll make' attitude either. It was just 'here's your dinner.' :lmao: I wonder now if that made a difference in how I view food.

Not the Diet Coke and the booze :scared1:

AMEN! Take away my beloved booze?!? What joy could be found in an Epcot without margaritas? :scared:

Does anyone have pictures of these 'dry, hard crumbly buns'? I just can't imagine what they look like, as all the wheat bread I've ever had as either been nice and soft, or good and crusty/chewy.

No worries, I am still clinging to the fact that these are last month's reviews and they've taken care of their distributor problem since then. :lmao:

I am encouraged by the two very good reports from Casey's last week. Guess I'm the eternal optimist! I may very well be eating my words (and preferring them to the buns) in a few weeks.
